Tkidder Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 When in April is the best time to fish for Smallmouth on Lake st. Clair Quote
Super User Scott F Posted April 10, 2022 Super User Posted April 10, 2022 Surface water temps are still in the 30’s. I’d say the best is the end of the month when water temps will be as warm as they get during the month. Quote
SWVABass Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 If you haven’t listened to BTL Day 4 with frank scalish I would. The guy has crazy good experience fishing those conditions and gives some very detailed info on how to target ice out smallmouth. Check it out, according to him now is the time to load the boat with fat prespawn fish. Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted April 10, 2022 Super User Posted April 10, 2022 I’ve been going to the lake for 20 years for a weeklong trip with friends. We rent a cottage on Harsens Island. In order to try and make the weather less of a factor, we have always gone in late May. Last year we went mid May and got extremely lucky with the weather and had the best year ever. Would like to try earlier but too much in cost and time to chance it. Good luck! It’s a magical place when the bite is on. Quote
