MRG Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 I was looking over the Pure Fishing site recently and feel like in general things are confused there. I feel like they are not playing on the strengths of their various brands - at least based on my aging frame of reference. Though I've never had a Pflueger, I was perplexed and dismayed that this brand had risen from the ashes only to seemingly fall again. At the same time they are pushing Penn low profiles??? I'd also like to see higher end Berkley rods. Does nobody remember when Berkley rods were some of the best out there? In my opinion way too much emphasis on ABU Garcia rods. I could go on and on... Must be a bunch of Millennial newbs running the marketing show over there who don't understand the historical meaning of their brands. 1 Quote
QED Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Pure Fishing was purchased by private equity firm Sycamore Partners back in early 2019. PE firms buy what they believe to be under performing companies to improve their operations in order to maximize the value of the acquired companies and then cash out through a liquidity event. So shedding unprofitable brands/businesses is standard operating procedure. Brand nostalgia isn't a big factor in that calculus. 1 Quote

When I was a teenager , back in the early 1990s, I use to have a few Berkley series one rods, they were excellent rods, very light, crisp and super sensitive. I think pure fishing is ruining many brands by focusing more on marketing rather than quality. 3 Quote
