Super User ChrisD46 Posted April 6, 2022 Super User Posted April 6, 2022 Whether it be lipless cranks , square bill cranks , swim jigs , chatter baits , etc. - what are the prime months you are apt to throw red / orange lures for bass ? I suppose you may also choose water temps , water clarity , or pre-spawn as a primary guide as to use red / orange color lures as well ... What works best for you when deciding to throw red / orange lures before moving on to other colors ? Quote
Super User gim Posted April 6, 2022 Super User Posted April 6, 2022 I think they are generally a “spring” color but I have red lures that I’ll use the entire season here from May - October with effective results. Quote
Finessegenics Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 I don’t really throw red, I do use some orange soft plastics and orangey-chartreuse moving baits. For me, they’re an all year round kind of thing, especially the soft plastics. A green pumpkin orange TRD is awesome for me. A lot of my skirted jigs also always have two or three strands of orange in them. It’s just something that works for me Quote
papajoe222 Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 I've been a die-hard fan of a splash of red on the underside of shad colored hard baits for years. The same goes for an orange belly in the spring. I have more red lipless cranks than chrome, or gold. With me, it's a confidence decision to throw something red when the water isn't clear, even though I know that it's the first color to wash out the more stained, or the deeper it's fished. Quote
camman Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 It’s also a location thing…I fish the CA Delta and have a red squarebill tied on year around Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 6, 2022 Global Moderator Posted April 6, 2022 The cold water months seem to be best but they work year round for me. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted April 6, 2022 Super User Posted April 6, 2022 I fish dark colored plastics on a red jig head from ice out to the mid-60 degree water temp., then return to throwing black or unpainted heads. oe Quote

We're liable to ruin our reputations or get banned from the site. ? Seriously I fish red and orange all year. I find orange to be a great color for pike in some northern waters. 1 Quote
