Man, I hate poison anything - ivy, oak, sumac. Used to get it bad. Tis the season, huh, TN?

I used to get it almost every spring too.  The primary culprit here is poison oak.  I know what it looks like but I still got it, and my body reacts to it big time.  A tapered dose of prednisone is the only solution. Usually it was because I decided to look for a golf ball I hit into the woods.  I never even go in there anymore to look for them.  Getting poison oak isn't worth finding a Titleist.

 

I had some on the inside of my duck hunting waders years ago.  Every October, I'd get it on my legs and I couldn't figure out why.  Then it occurred to me why I was only getting it at the same time of year, every year, right after duck season opened.

 

I burned those waders and peed on the ashes.

Hope that clears up soon (and is localized on just that area)

The big three are fairly prominent here (Poison Ivy, Oak, or Sumac)

Fortunately for us the same preventatives that works for ticks, usually takes care of this as well. 

Separate clothes for inside & outside has been the deal for a while now. 

This would really wipe my wife out.

Looks like Cooties to me. You touch any girls lately? ? I got Poison Ivy on my wrist between my shirt and gloves a few years ago and in three days it had made up to my arm pits. That was while using $40 oz prescription cream that clearly didn't work. Then I tried Solarcaine Medicated First Aid spray and in 1.5 days it was gone.

I have been blessed to be totally immune to poison ivy....but my doctor says you cannot depend on that as the immunity can go away at any time, so I am very careful to avoid it when possible. So far I have never had a reaction to it, and I hope it stays that way.

Prednisone is truly a magic cure once it’s all over you. Luckily over the last seven or eight years I have only had mild cases so I haven’t had to use it, but it works if needed

Dont scrub the area with anything rough

and do not use either Floral scented bleach or gasoline.

My cousin talked me into the bleach trick when I was young. The poison ivy went away but so did a decent amount of my dignity

I never had it as a kid.  We used to rub the leaves on our arms to prove how tough we were.  A girl in the neighborhood would eat it.  All of a sudden when I was in my 20s I got a terrible case and have been allergic ever since.  I am told that with each exposure you absorb antibodies until the time that they overwhelm your system.

Its dirt cheap too at the pharmacy.  Problem is that you need a prescription to get it.  My copay was 10 bucks and I remember it costing well under that every time I went to get some.

When I get poison ivy I put a very small dab of my eczema medicine on it.  The poison ivy is gone within the hour.

I don't get poison ivy, my biggest enemy is chiggers. People say they only attack the ankles.....BS. lol

My wife gets poison so bad that she can't be around burning brush with poison in it, the smoke gets her, seriously.

I use to not even walk by it without getting it. Now I can stroll through it without any issues, not sure what changed but sure glad it did.

I’ve never had it. I hope it stays that way, too. 
 

But, I did fall into stinging nettle as a boy wearing shorts. That was a painful mistake.

I get it every year.  I use this:  

 

 

Wash the affected area two or three times a day.  It works, plain and simple.

I used to be fairly immune. Found out the hard way in 2020 that I was no longer immune. Both forearms and a good chunk of the side of my stomach where I probably brushed my arm against under a t-shirt. Kept it clean and washed a couple/3 times a day. Not pleasant but didn’t die.

I'm one of those lucky folks that aren't affected by it.  There used to be a big patch of it next to one of the fairways on a small 9-hole golf course near me.  There was a sign warning of the poison ivy.  When I was a kid, I used to wade right into it and pick up lots of golf balls.  

 

I'm 61 and still am not affected by it, thank goodness.

years ago living in pennsylvania i went to Washingtons crossing and hiked along the river.

I took a pee in the woods and the next day my thingy was red and my inner crotch area were on fire.

I had to go to the hospitol to get lotion to apply. Poison ivy got me.

 

20 years later living in california i was gold mining on the columbia river and walked into the woods to work my way along the bank of the river and got into poison oak.

3 days later i am at the hospitol gettin a shot as it was on my arms, stomach, hands and legs.

In high school my buddy and I were fishing on a small island ( about the size of a big house), and he had to “go”.  Of course he didn’t have any TP with him, so used the closest leaves he could find. Needless to say, it was not a pleasant few weeks for him ?
