Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 I m looking to grab a landing net and unsure of how big a hoop and length of handle I want. It’s going in a Tracker Heritage so I don’t want to waste space but something that’ll be handy. Any and all suggestions welcome. Thanks 1 Quote
Junger Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 For LMB? This would work just fine, and stows away because the pole telescopes.https://smile.amazon.com/SAN-LIKE-Floating-Fishing-Net/dp/B08ZC89SM8/ref=dp_prsubs_1?pd_rd_i=B08ZC8DRTT&psc=1 Then there are others that break down even further by folding the net in half. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SVTZR3H/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AVJ8I855RELQZ&psc=1 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 4, 2022 Super User Posted April 4, 2022 18W x 19 tom21L x 16deep conservation net with 48” telescoping handle is all you need for bass. Tom 2 Quote
Super User ATA Posted April 4, 2022 Super User Posted April 4, 2022 I am using this for few years: https://www.amazon.com/Frabill-Hiber-24in-X22in-Hndl-3600/dp/B00302PYRE But if I am not in boat or I can do it with shorter handle, I would use the same as the one @Junger Showed. Specifically this one: https://www.amazon.com/PLUSINNO-Floating-Fishing-Steelhead-Telescopic/dp/B08DRLL2QH/ref=sr_1_10?crid=12O6YDV1R36MN&keywords=Fishing%2BNet%2BCollapsible%2BTelescopic%2BPole%2BFishing%2BNet&qid=1649054839&s=sporting-goods&sprefix=fishing%2Bnet%2Bcollapsible%2Btelescopic%2Bpole%2Bfishing%2Bnet%2B%2Csporting%2C124&sr=1-10&th=1 Quote
Captain Phil Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 We carry a collapsible landing net in our boat to use with fish over five pounds. I prefer not to use it as it can disturb the protective slim found on bass, but there are times when it's necessary. The pros quit using them because of potential harm to the fish. I'm not sure hands are any better? Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 4, 2022 Super User Posted April 4, 2022 The Frabill Conservation Series Landing Net has been good for me. Camlock Reinforced Telescoping Handle from 24-48", 20 X 23-Inch Hoop, 16" net depth. Model 9510 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003JSLWLQ/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Light, sturdy and effective with one hand operation. Even for a mildly eccentric and somewhat elderly fellow like me. A-Jay 2 Quote

I use this ^ also, excellent net and easy to remove trebles. 1 Quote

I'm not sure hands are any better? In the world of fly fishing for trout, where protecting the fish from harm can start a fight, rubber basket nets are preferred. As for your hands, it’s generally considered to be less harmful to trout if you wet your hands before you handle them. I would think the same would apply to most fish, but could be wrong. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted April 4, 2022 Super User Posted April 4, 2022 I use a 20x21 from yak attack. Its a great net, but still not 100% of everything I want in a net (I want the hoop to be collapsible for easier storage). The hoop is the main issue for storage so check the compartments you’re going to put it in. I’m in a kayak so it’s in the open well in the back and it just fits. rubber wide mesh is mandatory. Trebles don’t stick and it’s easiest on the fish. Quote

I won't do business with them or any of those "never heard of em and can't pronounce the name" sellers on Amazon. They are all full of crap. They tried to bribe me too...."Oh we were going to send you a fly rod to try next...are you sure?". I can't repeat what I told them without getting banned here. To each his own but I'd never buy from them. Edit to add: Click on the PLUSINNO Amazon link above and notice that the top reviews all have photos with them. That's how you know they are fake. Not always, but in this case absolutely. Review after review. They ask you to post photos. Who would post 6 photos of a $40 net? People getting it for free, that's who. They recruit reviewers when the product first comes out, that's why they're all at the top. Sort the reviews by "newest first" and guess what? No photos. Those are the real reviews. Amazon is trying to prevent this but they aren't succeeding. Hope this helps someone. 1 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted April 5, 2022 Super User Posted April 5, 2022 I like the Frabil above. Nice. Bigger than I need since I need to carry it on the nose of my kayak. I modified the G2 net. Added a handle which was a very enjoyable project. Quote

I love it because it folds up and I can keep it under my gunwale at all times and it is never in the way. I can also grab it while fighting a fish and it opens very easily one-handed. It doesn't have a solid metal piece going across the top so I have fish more or less swim into the net rather than scoop them up. I have had coanglers complain about the net but I have used it so much that I know how to use it. For me, it's small size is it's best feature. A more traditional net like what Ajay recommends works better but it takes up more space. Quote
