Intermediate angler Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 Hey guys I need your help.so currently I’m planning on buying a new rod and I was wondering if 6,8 medium power fast action rod is good for jerkbaits and top water and jigs,3.5-5 inch plastic swim baits or in other words universal rod ,but more leaned in into what I said,or should I get a moderate fast action rod that’s 6,8 reason is because I want something portable to carry around in a car.I plan on matching it with a 7.0.1bgear ratio on 12 in 100% carbon. Oh and I already have a Medium Heavy 7,1 fast action rod. Please advice me. Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted April 3, 2022 Super User Posted April 3, 2022 I think your MH is the better choice for the jigs and swimbaits. For jerks and topwaters I prefer a mod fast but it's purely personal preference. No right or wrong there, just a matter of what YOU like best. That said, if you're gonna throw all the above on one rod, fast is the way to go. 1 Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 Not sure your talking spinning or casting. Either way a 6'8 M F are made for JB/topwater so it should do great for that. The weight of the jig heads your going to use is a big factor with the swimbaits. As for the jigs your better off using the MH unless your talking some really light finesse jigs. Quote
