Ordered last week Tuesday night. Got email right away and shipment info a few days later. Arrived today...all the way from Japan. Faster than TW.  Unfortunately my Metanium might have an issue. Handle does not spin freely. Takes a slight amount of force to turn, more than I've experienced with any reel.  Feels like the entire thing might be over loaded with grease.  Anyone ever experienced this with a Shimano reel?

I'd hate to have to open up a brand new high end reel to try to figure this out. This is my first order from Japan and first Metanum. I'll probably email them too of course. Can't imagine returns to Japan are very fun.

I had the exact thing happen to me about 3 weeks ago. I bought a new JDM Met HG Left to try using even though all my reel are righty's. I sent it to my reel guru & he broke it down & said it was over filled with grease. The grease was hanging up the spool rotation as you turned the handle. Made it feel stiff & jerky. He totally cleaned it out & relube/oiled it. It is butter smooth now. My came from digitaka. This is the first JDM reel I had any problems with out of about 15-20 reels.

Good to know on all levels. Thanks for sharing.

Update on mine. I decided to just test it out before trying to open it up. Put some line on and threw casting plug in the back yard. Worked fine.  You cannot notice the issue when reeling in actual weight and that makes complete sense since that weight is much more than any slight resistance all that grease has. Casting was not mind blowing or anything but will get that dialed in later.  I don't even think I need to open it up but I might if I can't get on the water soon.  We'll see how it does over next few months. I fully clean my reels every winter anyway.

I just ordered a Metanium from Digitaka last night. I made a member account on their page so I'm able to view the status of my order at any time.

I'm confused. You got one in the past that was sticky but just got a new one recently that's smooth?

No, I'm saying the hold the grease had has loosened up. Using it did the trick

I got mine from Digitaka and just got to play with it a bit today.  It does seem like it has too much greese in it.  I removed the side plate and spool and there's greese on parts I've never seen greesed on a reel before.

Also, does your drag back off loose enough. Mine all the way loose still seems pretty tight. Most other reels will loosen so much you can turn the handle and the spool won't spin.

Same with drag. This is normal for this Metanium I've read.
