bigspirit Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 After a few fish and skipping under trees this freestyle started sliding down the hook every few casts. I believe I may have seen this idea mentioned on here? Either way orange was the only color I had. Any other solutions that may be better out there? 1 Quote
imarazorbackfan Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 I don't believe this will hurt the bite. You could use a marker or even dip the band all together to change the color, wouldn't think dipping that band in JJ's would hurt. 1 Quote
Sphynx Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 I think you'll find that might actually help a bit, one of the things I keep with my tackle bags is a bottle of mend-it, when the plastic starts getting chewed up swap them out, and mend the tore up one, it'll be good to go after 5-10 minutes tops 1 Quote

Does it work on most plastics? Quote

An old trick is to carry a red marker in your tackle box to add color to rattle traps. There is even a pattern called bleeding shad with red color already added. Back in the day, the bass expert was a man called Jason Lucas. He claimed orange was the most attractive color to bass. If you look at many lures you will often find that color somewhere. 5 Quote

I haven't tried it on ElazTec or anything, but for all your typical zoom, biospawn keitech etc it works fabulously, saved me a ton of money over the years by being able to re-use plastics. 3 hours ago, Captain Phil said: Adding orange or red color to a bait can enhance it's appeal. I keep some of those scent marker deals in my bag in a couple different colors, orange or methylate or whatever is one, chartreuse and I think either red or pink is the other 1 Quote

While it doesn't work as well with Elaztech it does wonders for general plastics. It saves me hundreds of $ yearly. The only drawback is that it has a model glue like smell, but it wears off after a while. 1 Quote

My brother had the entire hook/head assembly blown out of a standard Magdraft. Mend-It fixed it perfectly. You can barely tell. Plus, unlike superglue, the repair is as soft as the original plastic. I fish a lot of plastics. I'm never without this stuff. You can fix baits just about endlessly. Even the noses of swimbaits can be repaired when a screwlock get ripped out. Ripped senkos get tossed in a bag and repaired whenever. Even ones nearly torn in half. Saves me a fortune 1 Quote

bigspirit Posted April 4, 2022 Author Posted April 4, 2022 I didn’t realize this stuff was that great! Definitely going to order a bottle. I think it’d be worth it for the magdrafts alone - the freestyles are $7 a piece which isn’t terrible for what they are but sounds like a little mend it could probably double it’s life. @Captain Phil It was semi-rhetorical as I know some people love orange baits but orange is a color I really haven’t spent much time throwing so I probably should give it a more intentional try sometime. When I walleye fish orange ? is my go to color. I’ve caught more walleye on baits with orange on them. I don’t know why they love it so much. Caught a 28 inch 9lb walleye on strike king square bill with orange on it. Also an orange bladed Mepps aglia spinner is my go to for walleye. 2 Quote

You can always add a cheap crane swivel to the hook and line: Quote

Although that unfortunately won’t work in this cast, it’s the part where the hook point goes through that’s opening up and causing it to slide down. The nose is on a screw lock so luckily that seems to be pretty solid so far 1 Quote
