tbone1993 Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 Hi All, Looking for mild to warm weather rain jacket ( 50-80 degree). What's the ford and chevy option? I've got a Striker float suit for ice fishing but its too warm and bulky to wear all day. Also already have a decent set of bibs but they are a little snug. Would I be looking at the BPS 100mph suits? Not trying to spend $400 on a jacket but I also want some quality features like neoprene cuffs and multiple pockets. Thanks for the help. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted April 1, 2022 Super User Posted April 1, 2022 I have always been partial to Arcteryx gear. If you can find something in their outlet, you can get some good deals. I have the Beta AR and it is a bomb proof rain jacket but it can be a little warm in 70+ degree weather. https://outlet.arcteryx.com/us/en/c/mens Quote
Super User gim Posted April 1, 2022 Super User Posted April 1, 2022 I just bought some new rain gear in February for the upcoming season. Haven’t used it yet. I was fairly set on the Simms Challenger series. I decided to go with Cabela’s Guidewear Lite instead after trying it all on and looking at it in person. I got the jacket and pants for about $300 total. I would advise against insulated versions if you are going to use it in those temps. You’ll roast wearing insulated rain gear when it’s 70 degrees out. 2 Quote
papajoe222 Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 I have both Simms and Columbia rain jackets. The Simms is a heavier material and I'll choose it for storms while the Columbia is lightweight and my choice for on and off rainfall. Note: neither of these have a lot of pockets as I have no need for them in the boat. Quote

Maybe I'll go basic rain jacket route. Just like the ability to throw my phone in my chest pocket and whatever pack of trailers im using. Quote
EWREX Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 i own simms challenger bibs and jacket. they are both fantastic options especially for hard rain/long storms. i'll wear the bibs even if there is no forecast for rain on cooler mornings with pants underneath. if there is only forecast for light or temporary rain i'll bring a lighter columbia water resistent jacket. 1 Quote
NoShoes Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 I just get rained on lol. I don’t melt and the sun down here dries us off quick. Quote
Holetail Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 I got a set of BPS HPR rain gear on sale at Christmas. Don’t really need insulation if I layered up. Jacket has neoprene cuffs and plenty of pockets. I fished 6 hours in the rain in January from my kayak and stayed dry. I also wear it just to break the wind as a shell layer and was pleased. I know it’s not the best gear, and won’t last as long as some, but it works for what I needed it for without breaking the bank. 2 Quote

Super User MickD Posted April 1, 2022 Super User Posted April 1, 2022 Agree with Holetail, go light and layer up in cold weather. Just be sure to get a size that allows a number of layers underneath. I haven't worn my insulated coat in years. Make sure what you get is breathable. Quote
walleyecrazy Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 I look to the outdoor/hiking type companies when I get rain gear. They make gear that is designed to be as breathable as possible while still providing the protection needed, and a lot of it can be had much cheaper than you will find from the fishing brands. Quote
Wildbillb Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 I run frabill surge 2 for summer and carhartt for cooler temps Quote

Take off in the morning with frost on the boat most mornings until the dead of summer 7 hours ago, walleyecrazy said: I look to the outdoor/hiking type companies when I get rain gear. The amount of companies without pit zips /vents is mind blowing. I worked in the outdoor industry for 5 years and while it all works it doesn't have the same fishing functionality that makes sense. Maggiesmaster Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 I fished all day in the rain—in a ‘less expensive’ rain suit. Got wet & froze. Bought a set of BassPro 100 mph rainwear. Trout fished all day in a January rain; stayed dry & warm. Trick is to buy them big enough to layer underneath and leave the layers off for summer. 1 Quote

I probably won’t see 50’s again until November. Give me another month and probably won’t see 60’s either. Quote
Super User Koz Posted April 2, 2022 Super User Posted April 2, 2022 I bought the HUK Men's Tournament Wind & Water Proof Rain Jacket on sale for $170 (Amazon) and it does a great job with wind and rain. I like both the inner and outer velcro around the wrists as it really helps keep the water out. I do wish the hood was detachable, but that's a minor inconvenience. Quote
