looks expensive

I looked around - the 20hp EFI is $3,500 - that's the one I'd put on the F-9...if I could afford it.

I have a 40HP Suzuki on one of my boats now. Great motors.

Last year I was looking at putting another 10 HP Suzuki on my john boat and I was in the $3200 price range. A little too pricey to buy then.

Now I see the 2022s 10HP and 20HPs are near $4,000.

Yep, looks like the borrowed the design of the Yamaha VMax to me and just put their decals on it.

Do you have ANY real information that indicates it's a copy?  Suzukis have been equal to or better than the noisy-geared Yamahas for many years. Seeing lots of Suzukis in Key West these days.

I was not insinuating it's a Yamaha, only the external appearance is very similar to that of a Yamaha.  I'm quite sure, other than the fact they are both outboard motors they are very different under the outer shell.

I doubt Suzuki had to copy anyone.

I believe some lower HP Merc's are actually Suzuki's.

Several 10hp lakes in my area. As our old Johnson/Evinrude 9.9's with 15 carbs wear out, the vast majority are going Suzuki 9.9 EFI and installing the 20HP computers. I bought mine in 2019. Pushes my 1648 along at about 23mph with just me, and 21mph with a second person. Great little motors.

Just traded off my boat with a 140 hp Suzuki.  Absolutely flawless motor.  8 years of pretty hard use, zero issues.  Quiet, fuel efficient, reliable.  Have the Mercury Pro XS on the new boat.  I hope I won’t miss a Suzuki.

I have an 84 Johnson with the 15HP carb. The carb is leaking and I will try to rebuild it. I did scrounge up a 10HP carb so all  is not lost but I would really like to replace it.

I have been looking at the Suzuki's. If I buy new it will be the Suzuki.

T-Billy is it cheaper buying the 9.9 and adding the 20HP computer or just buying the 20HP unit?  Do you know if anyone has a rock guard for the lower end? I use mine on a few shallow rocky rivers.

I must be out of touch lol!

$4,000 for 20hp?!

The profit margin on outboards must be enormous.

No, it's not cheaper. The motors cost the same, at least in my case. It was an extra $400 for the 20hp computer, but if I get inspected by the lake patrol at a 10hp lake, it'll pass. Some of the digits in the serial # indicate HP rating. They checked my Johnson once. ? Should I rephrase that last sentence?

I've been dealing with the same shop since the 90's and he treated me right. Sold me the motor for $3400 and gave me $500 for my old 93 johnson with a junk power head, so I'm all in on it at $3300 + tax and my old motor.

Dunno about a rock guard. I imagine somebody makes one to fit it. They're popular little motors. EFI and 4 stroke is nice. Starts instantly and idles smooth no matter how cold it is, sips fuel, nice and quiet, no mixing oil, can troll downwind without choking on the exhaust...

Thanks T-Billy. I have two shops in the area that sell Suzuki. I will talk to both. Fortunately the one 10HP lake that I hunt just went to 25HP so that opens up my options.

Yep! Thats the one price I got a few days ago but it did have electric start and maybe trim.  The dealers can't get them so they are trying to get the most from the ones they have in stock.

Forgot to mention mine is electric start. That's a couple hundred dollar option. You're right Dogface, dealers can't get'em. Bob told me he could have sold 30 last year but could only get 6 of them all year. Even back in 19 when I bought mine, he couldn't find one east of the big river. Had to order it from a distributer on the west coast, and they only had three. It's crazy.

The costal water guys have been bragging about them for several years.  They just haven't made it to the bass boat world yet.

I’ve had a DF140 since 2015, and it’s been the best motor I’ve ever owned ( owned Mercs and Yamahas as well). All I’ve ever done is oil and lower unit oil changes, filters and plugs and it’s always run like a champ. Lots of torque to get my fairly heavily loaded 18.5’ deep-v hull on plane, and will top out about 50mph, but I still can idle down to a perfect trolling speed for downrigging all day long as well. Oh yeah, it also sips the fuel compared to my Optimax. I can’t see myself going to a different brand for any future boats either.

True and they have also used Yamaha.
