Super User Spankey Posted March 31, 2022 Super User Posted March 31, 2022 PA Trout Season kicks of Saturday. It really truly never goes all the way out because there are always Special Reg’s areas to catch and release and fly and artificial lure areas. My real roots go back a long time ago as a kid with trouts. Never lost any desire to fish for them. Native, wild and stocked. Depends to where I go. Fly, live bait and spinner fish. Never really got into the PowerBait scene. Didn’t set the world on fire winter trout fishing. Caught some but really had a problem finding what I was after. Had too much ice to deal with also. If y’all get out, good luck. 3 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted April 1, 2022 Author Super User Posted April 1, 2022 Got slammed with torrential rains for a 8-10 hr. period last night into early am. Might make it a bit interesting. Quote
Super User GaryH Posted April 1, 2022 Super User Posted April 1, 2022 Especially in streams. The streams up here looked like roaring rapids. Will be interesting Quote

I'm glad that in my area we didn't get the crazy rain. We have fair water and should be able to get into some good sightfishing on some big stupid stocker trout. Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted April 2, 2022 Global Moderator Posted April 2, 2022 I didn’t get a trout stamp last year or this year, I can’t stand the silly things. I’m still allowed to fish for them in the national park without the stamp, so I can legally catch them somewhere if the wife insists 1 Quote
Fallser Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 I haven't gone out on Opening Day in a couple of years. Normally, I would hit Valley Creek which is Fly Fishing or lures only. Plus catch and release. Normally fairly empty on Opening Day. But I drove over the Wissahickon Creek today. It was high and muddy. Don't bode well for the local streams tomorrow. I think I'll hit Harrah's instead. 1 Quote

He took me to that creek once, I just waded around for the heck of it and found a dead rainbow 1 Quote

Brown trout stand a better chance of surviving through the summer, especially if they find some of the springs that feed the creek. Actually, it's not a bad place to fish. Once trout season is over and you walk away from the parking areas it's a good warm water creek. Holds four or five species of sunfish, plus smallmouth and largemouth. You're not going to get monsters, average size is 10 to 12 inches. Best I've done is a just under 17 inch smallmouth. There some big bass in there, but in the hard to reach places. It's only 10 minutes from my house and it can make you forget you're in a large urban area. 2 Quote

Browns aren't native to NA - they were imported from Europe...rainbows, cutthroats and brookies are native. 2 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted May 17, 2022 Author Super User Posted May 17, 2022 Guys how y’all doing? Have not been on the site much as of lately. Have been doing the trout thing. I think Saturday I’ll pull the plug on it. Time to get my mind right and switch to Mr. River Bass. Can’t kick, not too bad of a season. But didn’t catch a fish of the season trout yet. Maybe this afternoon. Maybe on the weekend. Been fishing a handful of stocked streams near home. I don’t have to travel too far to be on some trout. I fish a variety of baits. Flies, minnows and worms have been most productive. Generally Panther Martins and Rooster Tails are go to’s, very few on them. Been getting our share of rain but it has not been too hard on the streams. Been clearing up rather quickly. I’ll be retiring next Friday. I’m done. I’ve had it. Can’t wait to fish when I want to instead of when time tells me to fish. I’ve always said when I retire I’d take the fly fishing a bit more serious. Looking forward to that. Hope to start on that in the fall. Quote

Super User Spankey Posted May 17, 2022 Author Super User Posted May 17, 2022 Guys I have stuff at home to do. I’ll be busy. House is not falling apart but have to dedicate some time to things. I’ll have fishing into the mix that is for certain. Cripes I can be on the river at 5:00a fish to 9:30a and be home by 10:10a. Don’t unhook anything leave everything in place and go on down the next day. I’m sure it is gonna be strange for awhile. Heck I’m pretty easy going in the workforce having a demanding job working in heavy industrial equipment repair. On the job today is not what it was 35+ years ago. I’ve always had a line drawn in the sand that’s been I don’t owe you (co.) anything and you don’t owe me anything (except my pay from the week prior. If the situation would have been like when I started in the stuff 30 years ago, I’d have stayed to the end. I’ve gotten to the point that I’ve been dissatisfied with a few things. Can only make so many waves. I’m like by too many people to really show that side. I refuse to put gas in my truck at the tune of $5.00 to go to work for them. 2 Quote
