So some of you know me from the Toledo bend thread that Catt has.

And yall know I love slinging those 4 inch swimbaits.

Well I have had enough breakoffs this year to drive me crazy. I'm perrty stickler about cutting and retieing often but even with that it's getting to be a pain in the butt loseing so many expensive hooks.

I have been useing 14 and 15 pound berkly big game for years now with these baits and I'm hoping there is a line out there that can help.

I'm fishing shallow water 3 foot are less and lots of grass and wood.

I been reading up on florocarbon line but not sure what I kind I should try. I cant use braided line because the fish see it (already tryed it).

So after a bunch of reading I'm at this point. Should I go up from 14/15 to 20# big game or would a florocarbon line in the 14 to 20 pound range work better for me?

If you can swing the price 17 and 20 pound Tatsu would work great for you I’m sure. I use 20lb Tatsu it casts good and I haven’t experienced a break off with it. So I would recommend that if you can bite the bullet on the price. I use a lot of backing so I can get a couple spools out of 1 roll to help the price so I’d recommend doing that too

If you are wanting to try FC, Invizx would be a good place to start. Based on what you are saying, 15lb or 17lb should do fine.  Personally, I use 12lb more than anything else.

Just in case, I use to use Big Game years ago and it was always great until it wasn't. Once the break offs started, I was changing it.  Based on the amount of lost lures, baits, fish and time spent retying, I decided to move on.

Something I forgot to mention.

Due too what I'm fishing in and around I keep my drag locked down tight. So the fish cant get line too get themselves wrapped up in anything.

Is floro going too be able to handle that kind of power hooksets. I mean I really put the fire too them when I set the hook.

Tatsu is my go to, but  if the price is too much for you, give AbrazX a try.

As it's said, opinions are like *** and everyone's got one. Here's mine.

A fellow Louisianan here who fishes the snagfest of shallow water around the Atchafalaya and who also locks down his drag tight...went to Sunline Sniper #16 with a Palomar knot and never had a reason to second guess this choice. ??

That said, I still keep my lure knocker handy (a 5 oz. bank sinker zip-tied with a swivel clip) on the deck.

Lose very few lures with this combination.

What ya doing off the reservation!

FYI

Seaguar Tatsu 20#

200 yd spool $61.99

Berkley Big Game 20#

Ain't gotta tell ya!

Many will argue but I don't find Fluorocarbon as abrasive resistant as Big Game.

Personally I use all Sunline flouro products for everything except for 2 presentations which are braid.

For what you want and where you fish, 12#, 14# or 16# Sniper would be my choice. 20# Shooter for your most abrasion resistance needs.

How the heck are you breaking Big Game

I'm not saying you're doing something wrong; I'm just bewildered. I thought that stuff is invincible.

Edit:

Uhh I'll throw P line CXX out there for abrasion resistance. Only problem is that the memory on it can be a little crazy. But otherwise it is tough as nails and probably the all time most abrasion resistant line I've used

So I went picked a roll of Pline cxx 20 pound.

Been on the water since noon till 7 this evening.

Only had 1 break off today and that wasnt the strings fault. Hard too not get broke off when your hooked up too a 4 1/2 foot gator gar.

Liking the new line, but time will tell weather I stay with it or just go back too big game.

It cast good, holds a good knot. Was able too hook and land several more fish before needing too be cut and retied compared too the big game. But that could be because the cxx has a thicker dia then the big game I have been using.
