I am currently running a HB 570 unit on the bow/trolling motor of my boat. Ever since i bought it i have had nothing but trouble with it. The first one the transducer was not working at all. I sent it back to BPS where i got it and they sent me a replacement. I just installed it yesterday and it is all screwed up too! I installed everything just like the instructions say using the trolling motor adapter from HBs site. When i turned the unit on the depth won't stay stable. It jumps around and won't stop. Also, the water temp is reading 73.5 deg no matter if in the water or not. I know for a fact that the water is not that warm yet. What am i missing here guys? Did i get yet another faulty transducer? I really want to keep the unit but am getting pretty tempted to just get a refund! Any help woulb be great!

Does it screw up only when running the trolling motor and works fine when the motor is off?

Is it powered by the same battery as the trolling motor?

Is the trolling motor a variable speed instead of a 5 speed?

I don't know about your problem but 2 of the things I bought my HB for (si and gps) don't work.  They may have great customer service but I think their Quality Assurance dept has serious issues.

It is wrong at all times when the trolling motor is off or on. The sonars are powered by the cranking battery(separate from deep cycle). It is an old Motor Guide Brute 54lb thrust that has the adjustment speed knob(not 5 speed). My last sonar that came with the boat worked perfect at all times.

Could i be wrong and maybe the water temp is 73 deg right now? The transducer was kind of leaning to one side more than the other so i adjusted it a bit. I will have to try it again.

id remove the transducer from the trolling motor and temporarily mount it to a board or something and see what changes. i assume youre using the factory transducer?

I'll say this, I loved the 570 at first, then I had transducer issues.  I no longer own that sonar.  I'm not sure if Humminbird is having QC issues or what, but lately I've been hearing about a lot of problems with their stuff.

I just bought a 570 portable. Charged the battery that came with it, hooked up the unit, turned it on, and had a BLUE rectangle in the upper right-hand corner of the display (didn't know you could have blue on a monochrome display ???). Called HB tech support, they had me "restore factory defaults" - no joy - so the brand new unit is back at HB for repair/replacement right now...FWIW.

The specs on the 570 unit are great - I hope it works when I get it back  :-?

Since this thread came back I'll report that my 570 came back from HB and now works fine. Don't know for how long - hopefully a long time ... :-?

Regarding the temperature reading, I stuck my transducer in a bucket of water warmed by the sun, then also placed a mercury thermometer in the bucket and used one of the 570 menu options to "calibrate" or adjust the 570 temp reading to match the mercury thermometer.

FWIW ...

I am now on my 4TH unit from BPS and last too! It is sitting in the garage still............................haven't bothered with it yet! I did exchange the skimmer transducer for a puck trolling motor one though.
