My club team member Sean asked to borrow a specific buzzbait I told him I had. You think I could find it?  In my quest to seek out the holy grail also known as this buzzbait I went through so much tackle I had a head ache.  I finally found it in a TW tackle bag where I keep my toads.  It was on the bottom covered in packages of toads.

 

So I came to a painful conclusion. I have too much tackle or dementia.  I am at the point my accumulation of tackle and even combos is actually a distraction.  If I was thirty years younger it might not be an issue but at this point I’ve reached That point.  That’s all.

When I can't remember what line is on what combo strictly by memory or where certain lures or terminal tackle are, that's when I will downsize. I try and believe I will succeed in not reaching this point.

Reminds me of my uncle who was married to basically a traveling nurse.If he couldn't find something he would buy another even though he had it in one of the many storage buildings they had across a few different states.

While I still possess a fairly extensive inventory (relative term),

at the end of the past couple of seasons, I did manage to re-home some of it.

But there is much work to do. 

My reasons are similar except I'm not willing to go with the D - word.

So I'm just calling it Stage 2 CRS.

Not sure how many stages there actually might even be,

but I'm pretty sure I sailed by Stage 1 about decade or so ago.

Life comes at us fast . . . . or so it seems.

I did recently spend time searching for a particular lure hidden away. So I can share empathy.

 

Due to medical convalescence I am temporarily restricted to just angling from shore so I've had to simplify my kit dramatically. Fortunately the local fish are willing to play even with a reduced set of enticements. Yup, growing old with style! Cheers!

I had a similar thought earlier as I was trying to locate a pack of senkos. I have like four full boxes of plastics. I know that's nothing compared to a lot of folks but I accumulated all that in just a year.

I found the senkos in the trunk of my car. I'm only 30, let's not start this business yet ?

You don't have dementia, until you forget to buy more tackle.  Not remembering where you stored tackle is simply having a senior moment.  Not remembering to buy tackle is serious.

Thank you all.  My stuff is organized.  This one bait was misplaced but there was no way I could recall dropping it in the toad (trailers) bag.  Just too much. I have so much life stuff on my plate right now I’m shorting out I guess.?

Just spent 8 hours organizing my back room where I keep my tackle and it’s still a mess. I use the same 20 or so things, hoping to get organized and get rid of what I don’t use in the next few weeks.

I am trying to change my relationship with 'clutter'

 

I have one tackle satchel that holds five 3700 boxes and has a few side pouches that hold pliers, scale, leader material, scent, scissors, sunglasses, license, etc. But it all fits into the satchel. One 3700 box holds weights and some hooks. I have another ziplok with more hooks that fits in a side pouch. The other four 3700's will rotate depending on what I want to throw that day. Once in a blue moon, I will toss in one additional 3700 box under the deck. That's it.

 

Most of the time I have what I need to get bit. It's up to me to put something together that will work from what I have in the boat.

 

I own 14 rod/reel combos, but only four or five max go out on a given day. Occasionally I will slide the swimbait rod into the back of the Yukon in case I want to come back and get it.

 

My expectation is the one satchel and four rigs. If I didn't I would look like Fred Sanford and Jed Clampett carpooling home from the swap meet.

 

It's very rare that I regret limiting my clutter. . . . . . I mean cargo.

tom is right . take that stuff and sell it. then you can buy more newer stuff. ive come to the conclusion that i have more than i really need. i just like fishing tackle. its a relatively harmless addiction so i just live with it.

I got rid of a bunch of plastics to get a coworker’s kid setup. Fast forward some time I was looking for those baits to fish with. Honestly a few of those baits I still think about. 
 

To the OP I am there and made the mistake of taking inventory of my plastics and crank baits. I need to use up a fair amount of each and not buy more. Thankfully we have a Galapagos trip a couple of years down the road so the bait monkey will take a backseat to the camera monkey for awhile. Lenses make tackle look like a bargain.

All my tackle and gear is organized before the season begins.  Three weeks later, I end up looking for spinnerbaits everywhere but my spinnerbait boxes and my RageTails end up in my Senko box.
