I was bragging to a buddy of mine a couple of months ago about not ever breaking a rod while fishing. Well now have broken not one but two .  Y es one was my fault but the other not. When will I ever learn to keep my big mouth shut. LOL

I stopped swining in fish and my rod breakages disappeared.  What is weird is that all the ones I broke actually broke on the cast or hookset but it was the bringing in of fish that did the damage. Stopped doing that with the rod and the problem went away.

Unless there is an underlying issue, or design flaw with the blank, that's not how it works. Glad you aren't breaking rods though.

The only idiots I've seen break a rod on the hookset are the ones who act like they're setting a hook in an alligator's jaw instead of a fresh water bass. I broke a $250 dollar rod trying to free a snagged texas rig worth less than a dollar years ago, still kicking myself for that one.

My only rod set-break was excusable - the redfish took the lure when I was lifting it out of the water, and we both at the same moment did the two things that would break the rod - I high-stick set, just when the redfish exploded.  Wasn't even an aggressive set, just tip too high.

Landed the fish and finished a great trip with the 3-pc spare in my bow hold.

My favorite ML rod, and 13Fishing gave a great warranty replacement.

I snapped a brand new Shimano SLX rod after getting snagged and barely jerking it straight back towards me. I threw it away when I got home.

One as a kid. Actually, my brother. Closed the car door on my rod tip.

Last year (or 2020), I had a Fenwick HMX MH/F snap about 4” from the tip casting a TR. it was a clean snap. Replaced via warranty with a H/F.

When I was around 10-12 yrs old I broke my brothers brand new ? (I believe fenwick) ultralight rod by bending it in half like they did in the old ugly stik commercials. I didn’t go near him for a full week?

I Broke one by poking it down in the water to free it from a snag but the other I had a fish at the boat and was reaching to get him and he lunged down under the  boat and I guess I had to short of line out and the bend radias was to sharp and it snapped like a twig.

Haha this reminds me of my brother who was pretending that he was casting with his rod and took the tip clean off my rod. The other rod that I've had break was my dad's. When I first learned about rod power and action I decided to bend my dad's rod to see what the action was and I broke it. I was horrified and also only 12 years old. Never had a fish break one though.....

Every rod I've broken has been my fault. Poking snags loose is the #1 culprit. Some of us never learn.
