The thread about protecting ourselves from the sun got me thinking. Now that spring is hear construction season or ‘dig season’ as we call it is here. This past Friday we were doing a damage investigation on a gas main that was hit and one of the guys with me was on the side of the road and a car went flying by him less than 18” from taking him out. A few months ago I was out with a utility crew and a truck towing a trailer went flying by and the trailer hit one of our cones and it flew between two of us missing us by mere inches! This morning I was doing a pre construction walkthrough and I lost count how many people went past the road closed signs only to turn around after they realized they weren’t being lied to by signs that clearly said “Road Closed”.

We all have places to go and things to do, but please remind yourselves and remind others to follow the signs, if you see blinking lights slow down or move over. If the road is closed I promise you it is for a reason. Thank you.

I worked many accidents along road ways and I was always making sure I was well aware of oncoming traffic and would make sure I got out of THEIR way and didn't count on them to get out of MY way. I see these guys all the time almost stepping out in traffic, I suppose assuming the other person is paying attention. I do not give the average driver that much credit. I would hate to work on or near busy highways daily. Way too many idiots on the road.

Road construction season hasn’t started here yet. There’s still frost in the ground.

I’ve heard it referred to as two seasons here too: winter and road construction.

The Civil Engineers of America or some prestigious national rating system gave the USA as a whole a C- on our infrastructure. I believe the primary reason is because so many of our bridges are in poor shape.

It comes up several times a week 3 years later. In fact today it did one of the girls in a bank I deliver to when I came in with the second load(we can't carry more then $250k at a time) she said my name sounded familiar so she googled me and my accident came up after some baseball player with the same name haha. So then had to show her all the pics of me in the hospital in coma wrapped up.

The load limits are still on here but not for long, so it’s just getting ready to kick off. They still install utilities here all year long.

When I poured concrete I had the luxury of working on the highways and bridges across Ohio.

Imagine all those idiots driving on the road, now imagine all those idiots at your job.

All those little pebbles constantly hitting you at 55 MPH kinda sucks

But on the plus side you get an unlimited amount of exhaust fumes all day long

Today I'm driving back from the tax accounts office on US1 in south FL. It's two lanes south & two lanes north with a 45 MPH speed limit & divided by landscape islands in the middle. I'm in the inside lane next to the landscape. I look down at the yellow line parallel to the landscape island & see two shoes with feet in them touching the yellow line. There is a landscape worker kneeling on the curb with his feet extending inches from traffic with no sign or cone up to warn drivers of their presence. I'm thinking this guy has a death wish because my tires are inches from his feet. Unbelievable.
