Super User Koz Posted March 28, 2022 Super User Posted March 28, 2022 This is getting beyond ridiculous. How am I supposed to get my hotel renovated? I order new RFID locks for my hotel last August and the delivery date was November 1, 2021. It's now March 27th and my LATEST update says the locks will be delivered on July 5, 2022. New guestroom carpet was a month late. We're rushing to get it installed this week before Master's Week next week. I lost thousands in revenue this past weekend because I needed to take rooms out of inventory so we could get carpet installed. Window treatments are 3 months behind schedule with a tentative delivery date in April. Artwork, lamps, soft chairs, ottomans, and mirrors all have TBD delivery dates. We had the couches custom made and they came in on time, but they are sitting in storage because we need to get the new carpet installed first. Most months we need to select our 3rd, 4th, or 5th choice for soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion and mix and match brands because of shortages. I've been waiting on parts for one of my commercial dryers since last December. But the worst of the worst of the supply chain issues is that the new Shimano Expride baitcaster rods are delayed until next September on TW!!!! How will I ever survive? 1 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted March 28, 2022 Super User Posted March 28, 2022 Take your kayak, K, MGL, DC, and go fish. You can fix inventory problems from the water as good as you can standing in The Lodge. 1 Quote

So I'm doing my GM job, the AGM job, the Director of Sales, Project Manager, and pulling the occasional front desk shift. I also need a maintenance chief. And when I do want to get out there and find some time to fish - like yesterday - it's windy with gusts over 20 mph. But I did play hooky last Thursday and @flatcreek and I fished a tournament up at Lake Russell, so that was fun. 3 Quote
Super User gim Posted March 28, 2022 Super User Posted March 28, 2022 I could see why that would be frustrating. Not having hotel rooms available because you can't get carpet would cut into the profit margin directly. As far as the tackle supply issues, that has mostly disappeared now (at least where I'm at). It was a big problem in spring 2020, but it began to catch back up the following winter. All of the retail stores I've been in since February are full of items again. Even Fleet Farm has stuff on their shelves and they are notorious for not putting stock out in a timely manner. Finding good, hard-working, responsible employees is a problem for everyone right now. Its a worker market right now. 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 Saw on the news that GM and Toyota are shutting down two manufacturing facilities because they can't get computer chips. 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted March 28, 2022 Super User Posted March 28, 2022 I've been waiting for over a year for a simple sail switch for my furnace. Yes, getting ridiculous. 1 hour ago, gimruis said: Finding good, hard-working, responsible employees is a problem for everyone right now. Its a worker market right now. Bingo ! 2 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted March 28, 2022 Super User Posted March 28, 2022 I’m electro mechanical equipment repair. Never got put out with Covid. Products related to oil and gas so energy sector became essential. Parts and repair parts was going real well with only short delays little to no stock issues but since this past September I’m seeing it more and more. A few small simple replacement parts are holding up a few things big time. Only so much you can do. Source factory and aftermarket. Or make it if it is something that can be machined. My biggest thing to try to wrap my head around is the worker shortage. Or why there even is one. When things started to open back up, where the dudes go. I never got any stimulus so I don’t know how great it was. But in the years time I don’t see the whole put out workforce opt to become Doctors and lawyers in this short time. They have to pulled unemployment bennies if your called back. IDK, seem strange. But I do think this pandemic will have messed with the workforce for a time to come. 2 Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 We waited for 4 months for a 90% furnace heat exchanger . I installed it just in time for spring. Not good. On another unit we couldn’t get our hands on a simple propane conversion kit. That held us up for a week. Six weeks on a box of 24x25 filters. There’s more, but I won’t bore you with them. Not good. 1 Quote

I’ve been waiting for computer chips to be removed from vehicles since I started driving, my day may have finally come!! I wouldn’t mind going back to being able to fix things with a wrench supply chain issues have not effected me in any way, guess I’m the lucky one 4 Quote

Yes you are 100% correct. I’m thinking along the lines more of hands on labor types. But maybe they fall in that line also. This I have to admit. Being one who never lost day one over the Covid Pandemic, I’m ignorant to the whole situation. Never got a real feel of what it done to most. A lot of who could get theirselves setup at home did. I know how it effected my inter circle of people. But that’s about it. 1 Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 28, 2022 Super User Posted March 28, 2022 Seems to be cyclical, back in '08 we had a pretty big recession where suppliers/distributers in the construction industry weren't keeping a big inventory. We lost a lot of skilled trades who went in a different career path or flat out retired early. We had guys move out of state as well. This too shall pass. 3 Quote

In addition to the people who changed jobs to work from home type roles, a couple million people retired who ordinarily wouldn't have. I've seen estimates of 3M people retired 'early'. On a workforce of 150M, that's 2% of your entire workforce that chose to stop working. thanks, rick 4 Quote

Super User soflabasser Posted March 28, 2022 Super User Posted March 28, 2022 Over 1 million Americans have died in this pandemic, anyone that thinks this is no big deal is someone I will never invite fishing. This lack of empathy is an insult to those who died and those who lost loved ones. There are supply issues for obvious reasons. Hard to have everything back to normal when a big percentage of the workforce died and other factors that slow everything down. It is no surprise why things are going the way they are with so many people who only care about themselves. 39 minutes ago, TnRiver46 said: Also , some folks can’t work because they died This has a huge effect on everything yet some like to look the other way. 3 1 Quote

Junger Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 I'm pretty fortunate that supply chain issues haven't impacted me too dramatically. I did put in for a warranty repair for the fuel sender on my Lund, which is backordered for 4-6 weeks. But the repair is on record so I'm using my boat until the dealer tells me to bring it in. I do feel bad for people around me planning on home renovations, my buddy who is a home contractor has some horror stories about wait times for appliances, fixtures, etc. 1 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted March 28, 2022 Super User Posted March 28, 2022 We ordered a new industrial size air compressor about 9 months ago. First they thought it would be delivered End of Oct.or early November...then it was January...it showed up at my plant 2 weeks ago. Icing on the cake: the service technician they sent to install and commission it was a jack@#$. 1 Quote
schplurg Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 Wages here are going up as companies try to find workers. I see signs outside of fast-food, car washes, paying 17 - $19 an hour to start where before it was minimum wage. Target has some starting jobs at $24. If that sounds high remember this is California. It's expensive here. I personally think that anyone who works full time in this country should get a fair living wage. It takes all of us to make a society, and without any of these workers it breaks down, whether it's hotel staff, burger flippers or janitors. 5 Quote

These increased wages should have occurred decades ago, not during the worst pandemic in over a century. I am not surprised reading the responses in this thread about supply chain issues, it will most likely continue for obvious reasons. Let's see what happens in the next couple of months. 2 Quote

My parents were immigrants who worked second jobs on the weekends, the hourly ones like McDonald's and grocery stores. I played for travel sport teams on weekends and I don't really remember them being at any of them, maybe a handful. Not by their choice, but because of necessity. 1 Quote

Perhaps they have skills that they never tapped into before, but typical manual laborers and fast food workers don't have, say, coding skills or something along those lines that many people do from home. 2 Quote
