Ok, I’ve got one rod that has been in my arsenal since I began fishing and it’s time to replace it. I use it mainly for buzzbaits and whopper ploppers…it’s a 7’mh do all kindof rod. Just wondering what your absolute best topwater/buzzbait type rod would be. I have a frog rod and I have a rod I do my poppers and walking style baits. I’ve got a rod in mind but want to see what your pick would be for yourself. Thanks

I'm partial to Shimano, so I would love to use the new Expride 6'10" MH for said technique.

I have an 844 GLX and a MH Legend Elite blank both built at 7'10" that I'd pick for those presentations.  The GLX is slightly heavier action so if you favor larger baits it would be better, but if you are using lighter ones I'd pick the SC blank. Either way, both are way better for that than ANY stock rod as they are fit to me and the extra length is great for those style baits.  I would totally recommend a custom.  As an aside, I built those when my rod lockers were 8'.  I'd probably go a bit longer if I remade them.

Oh really?  Do you use it for buzzbaits? Is it strong enough to handle 1/2oz? I have heard really good things about it! Looks like it’s hard to find

Yes, I use it for everything from Rico’s to buzzbaits, Whopper Ploppers, to Shower Blows. Extremely versatile for other techniques as well. Perfect length for walking top waters. I would rate it much closer to a MH and a M.

Cool thanks! What reel do you pair it up with?

For me a walking bait/ popper rod and a Plopper/Buzzbait rod are 2 different animals.

I wouldn't throw a plopper on a rod that short . Something 7ft 2 + for me.

Personally, the last rod I would spend big money on is one I can see them eat the bait on.

But To each his own.

So what would your suggestion be?

I throw buzzbaits and the WP on a old Daiwa lite and tough Flippin stick.

It's got enough tip to cast the things a long way.

If your throwing the 110's and 130's any longer heavy power should work.

The Falcon Amistad also works well . I also like the Powell 755CB. A lot of guys use it as a Chatterbait rod but I like it for bigger topwater like the WP, super spooks and Mega Dawg ect. For $150 it's a great rod.

You're pretty close to my suggestion as well.  I like Falcon rods and for ploppers the 7' Heavy (lizard dragger) is great, but I'm only throwing the 110 size.  A 130 size might be too much at which point the Amistad is the next choice.  I bet the amistad would throw the 110 well also (I'll find out this year).

I'm maxing out at 3/8 oz for a buzzbait so I throw them on a 5-power Falcon (mostly the 7' MH).  The 7' H would work but isn't ideal so I leave something else tied onto it.
