I’m looking for a rod to handle 1.5 squarebills mainly, but also traps, bigger squarebills and jerkbaits. I’m thinking of a Dobyn’s 705cb in the graphite. I’d think the 705 cb glass would be to flimsy. Btw the specs for both are medium heavy mod-fast rods. I don’t want a dedicated squarebill rod I’d say, I just want something that can throw a 1.5 really well while being capable of other techniques.

BPS Crankin Sticks are excellent for their price range. Light weight and sensitive for a composite. I'd put them on par with the Veritas Winch series. They're normally $79 and a solid value at that price, now on sale for $59. I may pick up a 7' MH myself.

I currently have the 7'3" H and really like it for swim jigs, light A rigs, and heavy chatterbaits on braid. It's even a pretty decent jig rod with braid.

I have a Halo HFX 7’ medium crankin’ stick. I would check it out!

I love mine…super sensitive and comfortable in hand. Can feel every single wiggle and can tell immediately when that wiggle feels different.

I see an LBTC72HM which is apparently out of stock, but no TBC72HF.

OP, maybe look at an ALX IKOS 7' MH Promise 7.  No personal experience with an IKOS, but all reviews on TW are positive....some highly positive.

Falcon lowrider 7' mh/mf is the same price as a fury and has great guides and better cork. Great rod. The bucoo trapcaster is $100.00. For a long time the fury and bucoo were considered the best $100.00 dollar rods.

I hear the Powell diesel crankbait rods are pretty good for $90.00 but I have no personal experience with one.

I used the dobyns fury 705cb graphite for a full season for sqbills, jerks, and topwaters. At first it seemed to have a hard time getting a good hookset, it felt a bit dead, rubbery and uninspiring but when I switched from mono to braid it became a whole new animal, I found with braid it obviously became more sensitive but it now had the power to fish spinnerbaits and swimjigs on it as well. All in all I found it a fun and versatile little value of a rod (with braid). I wound up selling it though and got a champion series 705cb.

I run 12# YZH on my Fury 705CB - less stretch than mono...one of the lowest stretch lines out there actually. I have no issues with hook-sets.

I bought this rod this rod a couple of months ago & have been using it for the baits you ask about. https://dobynsrods.com/product/kd610-4cb/.    I have not had it long enough to test a lot of baits but the following are what I have tried. Squarebills, Torpedo's, Jerkbaits, & Traps. Those baits work very well with that rod. I will also say that This rod really can get a 1/4 oz. trap out there.

@MN Fisher Funny you mention yzh, I just bought a few spools on a tip about bogo at dsg, just spooled up my champ 705cb with the 10 lb to give it a try, good to know it's lower stretch.

FryDog did a test a few years back - YZH was one of the lines he tested...

It's a touch shorter than 7', but the 6'10" medium Shimano rods (in whichever line fits your budget) would do well enough at any of these techniques. I use mine for jerkbaits and weightless senkos primarily, but I have thrown lipless cranks and squarebills on it and it does well, enough bend to keep the fish buttoned up but still stiff enough to rip the lipless and get crisp action on the jerkbait.

It's everything I wanted the fury to be, all it took was more money lol. It feels a tad lighter and crisper and it has much better guides and reel seat (all fuji hardware), but overall it feels similar. I just got it over winter on a black friday sale so I don't have a lot of time on the water with it yet but I'll be chucking squarebills and traps like a maniac with it real soon, ice out was only about two weeks ago here.

I have only one Dobyns, and it is the Champion 704CB Glass.  I like it a lot.  But....I have 6 Falcons.  I think I'd pick a Falcon over a Dobyns pretty much every time.  Some of that is because of posts I read when I first got back into fishing in 2009.  Anyone that thought Dobyns wasn't the best thing to come along since sliced bread got toasted.  That had a tendency to turn me off Dobyns.  It wasn't until about 2 years later that a few started to admit that there were more sensitive rods available at the price of a Savvy.  (And they weren't getting roasted anymore for saying that.)

I need a Trapcaster.  Picked up a used Amistad Expert over the winter.  Still looking at getting a Head Turner.  Either in a Lowrider or Expert.

Fury 705CB with Curado 70 and YZH 10lb is my sqaurebill setup currently. The combo is so light. Really blown away with the rod for the price.  Casts really well too.

I've been really happy with my Powell Diesel Crankbait rods. Really good rod under $100.00
