My family was directly affected by cancer.  I take it fairly seriously.

there is no avoiding the sun when it comes to kayak fishing.  I bake out there.  I’m covered up.  I wear a face hood, hat, long sleeve sun shirts, and I never wear shorts.  When it’s hot I wear men’s swim tights. The kind the marathon swim guys wear.  To preserve my modesty, I wear shorts over my tights.  :)  it’s not the best look.  Haha.

my friend go barefoot!   One guy peels annually like a reptile.

I just bought a swim shirt with a built in face mask and hoodie. I’ll look like ninja.  Hope the fish don’t laugh themselves to not biting.

what is your sun strategy?   Shirtless?

HUK or Columbia shirts - SPF rated 30+

Long pants - usually cargo pants so I have lots of pockets for things.

A hat

Fishing gloves - SPF rated

Sunglasses - I've already lost one eye to cancer caused by UV...want to keep the other one

Sunscreen for what exposed skin is left.

Ya, it gets a little warm at times - but better that than the alternative.

Bummer about the eye my friend.  Thanks for comments.

I cover up.

Don't enjoy slathering on sun screen.

Although I use it when I need it, I'd rather not.

HUK, Columbia, Simms & Buff.

They just keep coming

When I was younger, I wasn't as concerned about the sun.  I got sunburned a couple times while on vacation at the beach.  I paid the price the next few days too.

I saw a dermatologist a few years ago and she said I have some minor UV damage to a small area of skin on my forehead.  That got my attention.

I've gotten to be much more proactive about it.  I don't fully cover up with UV protective clothing, but I do use sunscreen religiously, I almost always wear shades, and I limit my exposure during the middle of the day.  I don't like wearing long sleeves or pants in the summer.  I wear that type of clothing all winter.

I use a sun shirt, sunglasses, ball cap and sunscreen. I were shorts and flip flops in the summer.

One of the guys I fish with does nothing and refuses to.  He has black spots on his skin and refuses to see the dermatologist his doctor has recommended.  He says they are for women with dry skin. I wish he would listen.  I worry he is in for a rude awaking.

I worked outdoors back in the 70s. Everyone took they're shirts off, to get a dark tan. Now at 64 I cover up and wear sunscreen where needed. I'm not risking any sunburns, and I could care less about a suntan.

Cover as much as possible with protective material.  The new long sleeve hoodies with cooling fabrics are great.  Good sunglasses, gloves, and sunscreen before leaving the house.  That’s about as good as it gets for me.

Ya - when he starts getting open sores that don't heal...well, it'll be a little late.

He gets open soars on his hands, arms and bald head. His family tries to get involved but he covers them up when he is around them. When tournament season starts I'm going to put him in touch with a guy that fishes in a different league that is missing his nose. Maybe seeing it first hand will help.

Same story here through the 80's and 90's. I'm pretty careful about exposure these days. Sunshirt, gloves, hat, pants or sunscreen when wearing shorts.

We did not know better. Heck, I remember when cigarettes were good for you!

May not be very good for me physically...but they do keep me from committing homicide.

Side - last full checkup (with the eye cancer I get a yearly CT scan) - no signs of anything else going on, and my EKG was that of a healthy 40 year old...and I'm 62...been smoking since I was 10.

It is hard for me to remember.  I don't burn.  I can go from honky white ghost in MN to FL for a day of fishing in the winter and just tan.  Makes it hard to have a healthy strategy.  I also prefer to fish barefoot and even prefer to not wear a shirt...which is what I did in my youth.

I now always put on sunscreen and try to cover up as much as I can but getting me out of shorts and sandals isn't ever going to happen.

The pic is typical,I cover up pretty much from head to toe, and if I have any skin showing I get burnt every time. Im never concerned of people staring when its 100 in TN and Im covered like that. It looks like you would just melt but its not too bad, I sweat the most from the PFD covering me up more than anything. I also wear it 100% of the time when Im on the water.

Sunshirt, just got some with the hoods also I'm excited about for this year, face covers, sun gloves, long pants with SPF protection. Usually wear my Crocs and have sunblock on the tops of my feet, that's the only place I don't mind having it.

The non malignant cancers are now being cut out of my ears.    Will not be long now.

Cover up with clothes. No constant slimy lotions on everything.

I slob on sunscreen on my face and still wear the face covering.

Not all face coverings are protctive and the ones that are i wouldnt trust the longgivity of such.

I buy the $9.00 coverings at wallmart only because they fit perfect unlike the more expensive 2 layered ones ive tried.

So being a cheap covering i slob on sunscreen on my face and during the day when taking a break i pull the mask down and am exposed to the sun so the sunscreen helps during those times.

Never smoked a cigarette in my life, 61......both parents did and died young with lung cancer.

I wear shorts and a tank top all summer but use sunscreen liberally.

Oh, been chewing tobacco since I was 11. Lol

For the most part I'm on before sunrise, and off before or just when it starts getting hot, around 11:00. Mostly cause 6 or 7 hours sitting in a canoe is about all I can handle, but it does avoid the stronger sun, especially up here in the north. Other then that, sunscreen and a hat. I've been considering gloves as sunscreen doesn't last long there.

I wear a sun shirt if I’m going to be outside for any significant amount of time in the summer. In addition to the skin protection, I feel less fatigued after a day outside. The summer sunlight in the south is as draining as it is hot.
