Reel Repairmen

I recently dropped a Shimano Sedona spinning reel on a hardwood floor.                                      Now, when I turn the handle, there's a knocking sound inside this reel. The sound and feel is more pronounced with the AR switch off.                                   This is an older Sedona, but in very good shape.Does anyone have any ideas on what  may be causing this problem?             This one's been a favourite reel for a number of years, and I'd still like to keep it going. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you bent something. Whether its a gear shaft, or the frame itself. If it's the frame itself, then you're probably SOL. Talk to DVT and see what he thinks (he is a board sponsor). It might be more expensive to repair that model than what its worth.

I hate to say it but it might be time to go shopping for a new reel. It may not be worth sending out for repair unless it has some sentimental value. If something is truly bent, getting it back to its original shape is next to impossible.

Try a different spool.

Ya, it’s impossible to say sight unseen. Impacts on hard surfaces obviously aren’t good for them but I’d hate to think a shaft would bend that easily.

I dropped an Alphas on the concrete front steps once. Bent the frame. Bummer.

J Francho, I'm going to open it up and take a good look at it tonight. I don't think I bent anything, it's more like a part became loose inside. AR switch still works fine. Reeling forward, there's an occasional knock. Reeling backwards, it's a steady knocking which you can feel. I have a spare spool, but it's the same with both spools.

If the spool was at the top of it's stroke when it was dropped and the spool's lip hit first it's conceivable on such a thin shaft.

Reading that hurt my heart. An Alphas is on my bucket list to own one day.

I had five or six of various flavors, including the Megabass Alphas Ito Ai. Perfect little reels.

This, plus try spinning the handle without a spool to help pin point the source. The spool shaft, bail assembly, or handle would be my guess, but without seeing it, it could be a bunch of things, including something unrelated to the impact.
