GoneFishingLTN Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-DAIWARELLS.html?from=basres Has a smaller spool and I always see people talking about if you buy a 7/8 gear ratio for example, That if you have a smaller spool by the time you cast out and reel it in your gear ratio really wont be a 7 or a 8? So does this stand true with the tatula sv? Quote

Gear ratio never changes - it's the retrieve rate (how much line you take in on one turn of the handle) that changes. Any reel - the more line you cast out, the deeper into the spool you get, and yes, the retrieve rate will go down. Shallow/wide spools suffer from this less than deep/narrow spools. Quote
newapti5 Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 Yeah, you are confusing gear ratio with IPT. Here's a discussion about IPT: Quote

IPT is related to spool diameter, and how much line left on the spool. So sorry, no common IPT related to certain gear ratio. A 5:0 reel's IPT could be larger than a 7:0 reel's. Quote

newapti5 Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 On the reel, no; but on the box, yes. Here's the IPT: Quote

The width does affect the delta of the IPT as the spool empties, the depth does not. Quote

ErieCan Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 The spool on the SV is a shallow spool. Holds less line but it's roughly the same width of the Tatula 100s. Quote
