RobA Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 Anyone have any tricks or ideas for how to label/identify which lines you have on different reels? Pound test, brand, type etc. Quote
newapti5 Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 I keep an Excel file like this handy. Or, Lew's reels have those "line indicator" for this purpose. 3 Quote
5/0 Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 A computer file as stated above. I also put a small label with brand, test, and date spooled on the reel in an out of the way place. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 23, 2022 Super User Posted March 23, 2022 Another one who uses Excel to track my rigs - including line. And like 5/0, I use a Brother Label maker to print off the line type/# test and put it on the reel foot. Quote

Put mine in with hand printed labels. Checking out the Brother option though, especially for tackle boxes. Which model do you use? Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 23, 2022 Super User Posted March 23, 2022 I've got a P-Touch 1280 that we've had for years - I'm sure a less expensive model will do the job https://www.amazon.com/Brother-PT-1280-P-touch-Electronic-Labeling/dp/B000ALGKEO 1 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted March 23, 2022 Super User Posted March 23, 2022 I save all that info in Notes on my iPhone. 3 Quote

Since my Excel file is synced to G-Drive - I have access to it with the phone (Android Open Office) as well...just quicker to glance at the label Quote

I don't have that much tackle that I need a spreadsheet (although I love spreadsheets). The label on the foot of the reel is more what I was thinking. Thanks. Quote
Finessegenics Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 I don’t have enough combos to forget what line I have on them I’d probably use a notebook and write it all down or use an excel sheet as others already mentioned Quote

Super User king fisher Posted March 23, 2022 Super User Posted March 23, 2022 I simply keep it all in my head. I can't remember birthdays, jokes, or what my wife wanted me to pick up at the store, but I can remember what size, brand, and how old every line is on all of my reels, including 40 or more Salt water reels, I use for work. I can even remember what leader material, and which knot I used. I even remember what line is on my friends reels. If I wrote it down in a notebook, I would forget where the book is, and if I put it on my computer, I either wouldn't be able to find it, or wouldn't be able to remember a pass word to get at it. I guess I have what my wife calls selective memory. 5 1 Quote

I mix in some backing on a few reels and have #11 Sunline Armilo spooled on my jerkbait, crankbait and topwater rigs, but it's a dark line. So...a three trick pony. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 23, 2022 Super User Posted March 23, 2022 Always just used my memory and color of each different line used. Any doubt about pound test I just measure it. If you start using devices to remember you will forget quickly and lose the ability to recall. Tom 8 Quote

In my next life, I don't want a photographic memory, much easier without it. 1 2 Quote
