Unless it's an unusually wet summer, I'll drop my deck down in late june, scalp that sucker, let it turn brown, and not have to mow again until Sept. I'm not a fan of yardwork. Couldn't care less about having a manicured lawn.

My brain would melt  . . . . . . .

Couldn't do it.

Just couldn't I tell ya !

LOL!!! We're wired as polar opposites for sure brother. That actually crossed my mind when I posted pics of my boat build in your waiting on ice out thread. I seem to recall seeing your VERY organized tackle storage in a pic sometime prior to that. Your garage perhaps? I thought man, A-Jay's liable to develop a nervous tick seeing my semi organized disaster of a garage in the background of my pics. ?

Time is the only thing we can NEVER get back. Spend your time wisely and enjoyably be it fishing, gardening, working, whatever.

I used to ~

The type of deals listed by the op @Mobasser I now place into the "My Life" category.

Fishing is and will always be in the "Hobby" category.

Helps me prioritize.

Clearly I am supremely passionate when it comes to wetting a line,

but when I head out onto the water without a clear head,

I rarely have the type of day I am hoping for.

Thinking about what needs to be done and knowing it will be there waiting for me when I get home,

is distracting for me and just about cripples my ability for 'fish free'.

Makes a good thing not so good IMO.

The only recourse in my mind is, get as much of that deal done in advance of any fishing.

So much of my (retired) life is routine that it's mostly fairly manageable.

The weather plays a huge role and it usually helps that good fishing days

may not always be good 'do stuff' days.

Planning is key.

Also, I am a HUGE Procrastinator my nature, but I know it.

So I do everything NOW knowing that if I don't, it may sit incomplete for the rest of my life !

To help stay ahead of all of that mess, I do whatever I can as early as I can.

Example - there's a foot of snow on the ground here, but last week I took delivery of all my lawn fertilizer for the entire year.  (and yes the delivery driver thought I was mostly nuts)

 But I'll be ready.

So true about how much better it is to fish with a clear head! Personal experience agrees with that 100%. Sucks even more if said fishing stint is a skunk out and now you got to do those tasks.

I just finished putting in the new commode and of course there’s always a curve ball or two.

Apparently, the idiot who painted the walls when last painted (me) didn’t do a good job painting behind the old toilet (it was very tough in my defense, I recall when I did paint it, it was going to bite me in the butt) such that the newer, sleeker toilet would expose the less than ideally painted wall behind it.

I had to put 2 coats of paint roughly 40 minutes apart to somewhat dry before I could even start installing the new one.

I then discover that I had to chisel out some excess mortar from a nearby floor tile that wasn’t an issue for the old toilet.

not that it’s complicated, but it does slow you down.

Decided to not fish after all. I’m going to hit some golf balls instead. ?

I should be fishing but this weekend and last weekend I’ve been helping my youngest daughter come home then go back to the dorm for spring break.
Next weekend I will be getting the lawn equipment ready to use and filling holes in the yard that the rabbits have dug.

This is why I just pay to have things like this done. True; I could do it myself but not being the most handy, it takes longer and the risk for having to re-work is high. This ensures the job will be done correctly (the first time) and I like delegating ?. It turns my wife on and I get my time to fish. Winner winner!

Well yesterday I said I should be fishing, so I did but I incorporated the whole family. Kids have been wanting to try their hand at brook and rainbow trout.

Ended up only seeing a copperhead. Kids found rocks to bring home and the wife collected plants to put in the ground today. So got to go fishing just not for green or brown fish but beat a day doing yard work….. now it’s time to pay the piper…

…and as soon as my wife texts me that she’s in a seat CLT-BWI, I will be! But if she misses that connection my phone will blow up, so I’m waiting lol!

I went. Only had one bite. On a Ned rig. And it was a decent one. But it threw the hook about 10’ from the boat.

It’s Sunday morning. Heading out in an hour lol.

I'll daydream about it while I do my chores.                                                  But I know I should be fishing. Does anyone else think this way?

Yep I know how ya feel…. But I did promise her I’d do a few things around the house here. Oh well, means I get to fish during the week. Less people out.

I don't have a honey-do list as I try to knock them out as soon as its asked, you know, happy wife happy life. I have a great wife who very supportive of me fishing, its the only hobby I have. She has literally told me, and meant it, not to come home unless I catch some fish.

She's a bit of an old-soul though as she says yard work is for men and house work is for women, I still clean after myself so our house is always clean anyways. I don't fret over yard work as I like to stay on top of it anyways. So basically as long as I feel ok and the weather is decent then Im good to go anytime I want, is it ever enough though?

Many times, lol. But often obligations as such trump hobbies.

My wife drags me along to go with Home Depot last night just to buy a new toilet. It ain’t going install itself, lol. She also wants new shelves in that bathroom.

I am glad she hasn’t realized that the lawn needs to be mowed. Fortunately, the ground is too soggy to complete this task.

if it’s any consolation, think delayed gratification. Such a thought gets me through such times. even if I throw a mental tantrum or cuss like Q*bert. ??

I planned on fishing three days last week, and at least three days this coming week, but I took my car to the shop on Monday, and a one day job still isn't finished, it's a holiday in Mexico this weekend, so I doubt it will be done by the end of next week. A mechanic that was supposed to do some work on the boat I captain, was supposed to show up and do some work last week, that he promised to finnish two weeks ago.  Of course he had a different excuse every day for not making it and I'm sure he will have more excuses this coming week.  Last week,  I had to have one tooth pulled, two root canals, and I'm still not done with the dentist, but I can't complain because my wife is my dentist.  I might have time to fish one day this weekend.   I will be busy with work the following week, so if I'm lucky, I will get to fish one day during what I planned on being a two week break from work. I definitely would not let yard work get in the way of me going fishing. With the attitude I have right now, if I had a yard I would pay someone to put enough Round Up on it to make sure nothing would grow for a 100 years, and if I had a leak in my roof, I would put a bucket under the leak, grab a tent, and move to the lake.

No preventative care?  I would find another dentist.
