Today, I should be fishing but, it won't happen today because,           1. I've got a bathroom faucet to fix.                                                   2. I need to get the mower tuned up and ready to mow.            3. The wind caught my storm door this winter, now I need to fix it.                                                      4. I promised a friend I'd help him fix a couple of shingles that blew off his roof.                                   5. My deck needs a couple of new boards put on.                         And on and on.                              My tackle is ready to go, and I'm more than ready to get out there. But, I've got chores to do which can't be neglected.                    Today, I'll try and get these chores done. Maybe tomorrow, I'll go fishing. Today, I'll daydream about it while I do my chores.                                                  But I know I should be fishing. Does anyone else think this way?

Yep. I should be fishing but I’m taking my new cousin by marriage into gatlinburg for a bachelorette party, I’ve gotta mow a buddy’s rental property, and Tennessee plays hoops at 5:15.

then I woke up to the wind blowing stuff off my window sills inside the house. I wouldn’t be out there even if I could be!

I should be fishing but I've got to wrap up my boat re-wire, electronics update and new deck/ rod locker project. Rewiring, complete, electronics update, 80% complete. Headed to the hardware store for plywood right now. Doggone 4' X 8' X 1/2" sheet of plywood is $43.00 now!!!

EDIT; Just got back from the hardware store, plywood is now $59.00 a sheet!

Many times, lol. But often obligations as such trump hobbies.

My wife drags me along to go with Home Depot last night just to buy a new toilet. It ain’t going install itself, lol. She also wants new shelves in that bathroom.

I am glad she hasn’t realized that the lawn needs to be mowed. Fortunately, the ground is too soggy to complete this task.

if it’s any consolation, think delayed gratification. Such a thought gets me through such times. even if I throw a mental tantrum or cuss like Q*bert. ??

I used to ~

The type of deals listed by the op @Mobasser I now place into the "My Life" category.

Fishing is and will always be in the "Hobby" category.

Helps me prioritize.

Clearly I am supremely passionate when it comes to wetting a line,

but when I head out onto the water without a clear head,

I rarely have the type of day I am hoping for.

Thinking about what needs to be done and knowing it will be there waiting for me when I get home,

is distracting for me and just about cripples my ability for 'fish free'.

Makes a good thing not so good IMO.

The only recourse in my mind is, get as much of that deal done in advance of any fishing.

So much of my (retired) life is routine that it's mostly fairly manageable.

The weather plays a huge role and it usually helps that good fishing days

may not always be good 'do stuff' days.

Planning is key.

Also, I am a HUGE Procrastinator my nature, but I know it.

So I do everything NOW knowing that if I don't, it may sit incomplete for the rest of my life !

To help stay ahead of all of that mess, I do whatever I can as early as I can.

Example - there's a foot of snow on the ground here, but last week I took delivery of all my lawn fertilizer for the entire year.  (and yes the delivery driver thought I was mostly nuts)

 But I'll be ready.

I feel you, OP. I feel you deep in my fishing soul.

I should be fishing but the lake looks like this and all the shore spots at the state park have boats on em. Its the last good drinking day of spring break, it's sunny with a good 10-15mph wind. Everyone is here.

I did manage to find a spot with no other shore anglers, but after the third boat trolling through that creekbed I just kinda gave up. Trying to decide if I should go driving in search of better water or just call it a day. Gas is expensive. There's hockey on at 1. I could put some new hooks on some things. My entire body is still sore from all the hay fever sneezing two days ago, finally stopped seeing blood in my nostrils last night. Maybe I just recover and get ready for next week...while dreaming of an empty lake. Water is finally above 48 degrees so next week should be killer pre-spawn. Have an exciting trip to canyon lake at the end of the month.

I was out here last night and saw bass feeding on shads all around me, but three hours with a jerkbait and I came up empty handed. Hurts to leave that way again today but I think that's the move. Yuck.

I gotta say, I’ve been a long time lurker of these forums, reading your posts as far back as 2012. Your attitude and outlook are one of the biggest things I’ve taken away from this site, regardless of topic. Thanks for being a great help to my fishing.

on topic: I should be fishing, but the weather radar lied and said the rain and lightning would stop around noon when I got off work. Hasn’t stopped yet, holding out hope it stops soon.

Nope. I always make time for myself. Always have, always will. We get one shot at this, yards and decks aren't going to hinder it for me.

Almost every time I go fishing, I quit because I have other items that need to be addressed. Family, dog, lawn, house, etc. Those are requirements and part of having a family and owning a home. No need to keep beating a dead horse on the family and kids thing anymore.

I remember the good old days of not being tied down. That’s not reality anymore.

I always look at the weather forecast and plan around that.

Windy days such as today are take care of obligations day.

The weather says I'm fishing Monday and Tuesday, goes south from there.

This is how I tend to do it as well. Check the weather, try to plan my week around that. Doesn’t always work, and some days become “spontaneous fishing days”

I should be fishing, too.

…and as soon as my wife texts me that she’s in a seat CLT-BWI, I will be! But if she misses that connection my phone will blow up, so I’m waiting lol!

I was thinking the same thing and that’s what I did. First fish of the year was a pickerel on a jerkbait and then I got 2 more to match. Beats zero.

I should be fishing, but our second hotel commercial dryer crapped out today. We've been waiting for parts on the first dryer for 4 months now.

The one that crapped out today had a fire suppression warning system fault and the machine wouldn't reset. Repair guys wouldn't give me the super secret code for the reset override, so now I have to wait for them to come in tomorrow.

Then I got sucked into other work at the hotel, and by the time I finished, winds were gusting to 22 - not kayak weather. So now I'm taking a break from cleaning the house. It's supposed to be chilly tomorrow, but I have to work anyway. No fishing for at least a few days. Maybe Monday or Tuesday after work.

Yeah, me too, but I did the "should be married" thing, so...

Amongst the list of minutiae on her list today was taking down all of the bathroom fan vents because she saw a fleck of lint in one of them. I really can't complain about marrying a clean freak though, because that's not me left to my own devices. I try to keep up, but this caveman can't hide his spots. I'll do my part now and hit the boat on Wednesday with my brother and have a clear head.

I thought your dogs took care of that task for you. ?

We just had our offer accepted on a house yesterday, after looking for a year. Packing and moving is gonna put a serious dent in my fishing time for the next 4-6 weeks. BUT...  I'm moving back to my little childhood hometown. Population 355. I'll be five minutes from a ramp, and 15 minutes from the neighboring lake that fishes completely differently. Really looking forward to it. Been working to get back there for years. The time has finally come.

My wife said fishing & summer vacation is more important than feeding or killing the weeds.

I should be fishing too, but the 16” of ice on the lake is holding me back from launching the boat just a touch. With this warm weather we’re now starting to get though, it won’t be too much longer.

I should be fishing, but instead I’m browsing fishing forums, while waiting for my 7 month old to finish napping.

Life is great!

Unless it's an unusually wet summer, I'll drop my deck down in late june, scalp that sucker, let it turn brown, and not have to mow again until Sept. I'm not a fan of yardwork. Couldn't care less about having a manicured lawn.

I think this everyday..............one more day is one less day......so I do whatever time will allow me to do for the day. Yes fishing is high on that list. I am fortunate in that my boss loves to fish as much as I does there are times we will call it quits early and head to the lake or wherever we can get to.So yeah I want to fish everyday but certain things just get in the way of my happiness.........LOL.......
