Super User Way2slow Posted March 19, 2022 Super User Posted March 19, 2022 You still gotta get it to the water if you don't live on a lake. My trip this morning, I burnt about 1 1/2 gallons in the jon boat, but 12 gallons on the 200 mile round trip to the lake and back. $6.00 in the boat, $53 in the truck. 4 1 Quote

I've got close to a dozen launch sites within 10 miles round trip of me. Half of those on Tonka, but the rest on different lakes in my area. Quote
throttleplate Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 i am filling my tank when the gauge hits the half way mark in my car, mentally it is less painfull. 5 2 Quote
CrashVector Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 I've got two pelican kayaks, but I feel the same way. Quote
schplurg Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 I couldn't afford gas if I had a Hobie! Aw that's an easy joke though, I have an Old Town and will be enjoying its gas mileage for sure, although I got winded bank fishing way too early today I thought. Hopefully my gas tank improves. New season <shrug>. <looks up at sponsor column> but....Hobie is by far the best kayak in the universe and everyone should buy two! (they may very well be!) Quote

My ratio isn’t usually that bad, but I use a lot more fuel going to and from the lake in my truck pulling the boat/trailer than I do when I’m on the water in my boat too. Wish my truck got the mileage that my 4-stroke outboard does. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted March 19, 2022 Super User Posted March 19, 2022 Most people brought up in the 50' and 60's had never run less than a half tank drilled into them. Back then, the cold war practices ruled and you were to keep at least enough gas to get a few hundred miles away. Which, it still smart to do that now, there are loads of things that can happen that will shut down gas stations for several days and emergencies the can require getting out of an area in ha hurry. That trip was with my 93 Toyota pulling the jon boat. That same trip pulling my pontoon with the 2500HD would have been about $20 in the boat and $150 in the truck. 2 Quote
detroit1 Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 I live 1.1 miles from my work. My boat has a 50hp o/b, and the lakes i fish are 40 minutes away and less than 500 acres. Gas prices don't really bother me, but i feel for those that have to travel far for work and/or play. Quote
Super User Bird Posted March 19, 2022 Super User Posted March 19, 2022 Gas prices will certainly make each trip to the lake more expensive but not enough for me to slow down.......yet. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted March 19, 2022 Global Moderator Posted March 19, 2022 I’d say I’ll be fishing out of my canoe a lot more this year! Quote
Super User Koz Posted March 19, 2022 Super User Posted March 19, 2022 I love my pedal kayak. But the trade off is that moving at 3.5 mph it can take me a while to get to where I want to fish. 2 Quote
Bassin Bruce Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 I'm retiring at the end of April. Instead of a gold watch I got(I bought) a Hobie PA 14. Been having a great time fitting it out, just the d**n water is still too hard here. 1 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted March 20, 2022 Super User Posted March 20, 2022 hell yes! but my Tacoma has a drinking problem. I need to go fill up today after yesterday. but I have made a mental note of excuses to NOT go with my friend on his bass boat. I can't afford my half of gas. I bet it would be $160 my half..plus the occasional gallon of the best fuel-oil money can buy (his words, not mine). not thanks. I am saving for live-scope. hehe.
