I think with the right lines and knots, it's less of a hazard than you'd think. Someone on this forum had the genius idea of clipping a wire leader with a float to the chirper so you can get it with a lure if it snaps. But I'd think 100lb braid with a modified Albright knot would be adequate. My main concern with those is more how it could change my relationship with fishing, and the giant splash it makes as it lands. I'm still not sold on it. But it would certainly give me a wealth of information. yeah, i agree on the super heavy line... i'm thinking of the random malfunction, such as a bail that snaps shut, i guess it might just bop you in the head??? but that might be the end of the sonar... i'm still don't feel comfortable that the castable sonar would give me that much information - by that much, i mean...well..........fish.... bait fish... castable won't, right? i'm assuming that's doable only with some of the more expensive sonar stuck onto boats... volzfan59 Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 I am perfectly fine fishing without it. I use mine for depth, water temp and to see what's under the boat. The day I go "video game fishing" will be the day I hang it up. Like @Mat_ski said, I'm a river rat. Quote

I've actually thought about ditching mine more than once. My wife says "how will I be able to get a hold of you without a cell phone?" I respond with "exactly." 1 Quote
