tander Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 Finally got to change out on my reels. Bought the line Black Friday but just now getting around to change it. I respool 3 reels before I realized the line felt kinked or really rough. Bought the 660 yd spool. I compared it to a spool of the same I had the year before. The old line was really smooth like it should be. Anyone who has bought a resent spool of Sniper, is yours slick or rough/kinked feeling. I am wondering now if it has lost some of its strength? Would you trust it? SEE MY UP DATE BELOW!! Quote
PBBrandon Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 Never used it until I just bought some 20lb Sniper a couple weeks ago and it’s great. You probably got a bad batch, and if so, sorry to hear that. 660 yards of it ain’t cheap I imagine. Is the whole spool like that? Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 19, 2022 Global Moderator Posted March 19, 2022 Except for braid I use Sunline products almost exclusively, especially Sniper and Shooter and have never had a problem of any kind. Gotta be a bad batch, I’d send it back. Mike 1 Quote

tander Posted March 23, 2022 Author Posted March 23, 2022 Well I got my answer from Tackle Warehouse, they haven't had any issues with Sunline and they think the line will be ok to use, answer I really expected. I wrote a letter to Sunline Warranty Dept to see what they say. I did send about 10 feet of the line for their inspection, interesting to see what they think!! 1 Quote
Lead Head Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 Let us know if/when they get back to you. I use Sniper for any and all fluorocarbon needs, including leaders. Haven't had any problems yet. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted March 24, 2022 Super User Posted March 24, 2022 I have had this issue with Sniper years ago. I bought several spools when Gander Mountain went out of business. The line didn't last long, had tons of memory, and seemed brittle and rough right out of the box. It drove me away from Sunline for awhile. I have used Sniper a few time since then and it has been great but I prefer Invizx over Sniper. I have had great luck with all of the other lines I have tried from them...... Sniper Invisible, Natural, Defier, Defier Armilo, Shooter and X-Plasma Braid. Quote
tander Posted March 25, 2022 Author Posted March 25, 2022 Tackle Warehouse sent me a second email saying to send the bad line back for a refund or replacement. Didn't have my return label since it was last November when I bought it. Call them and they are emailing me a return. Hats off to Tackle Warehouse!!! 10 Quote
tander Posted April 2, 2022 Author Posted April 2, 2022 Wrote to Sunline and this is their reply. Thank you for reaching out to us about your questions/issues with Sniper. We appreciate all your purchases that you've made of this line, and we have continued to use the same formula that Sniper customers are custom to. Sniper will feel different coming off a 660yd spool compared to the smaller filler spools. With more line being wrapped on top of itself on the bulk spools, it does make it feel different. It does not impact the performance of the line. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us again. Sunline America Really, I have bought 660yr spools before and they never felt like the one I bought Black Friday. Again I thanks Tackle Warehouse for great customer service. 1 Quote
BayouSlide Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 Had to order some Sunline Sniper FC elsewhere yesterday when it wasn't listed anymore on the TW website. When I asked about it today, rep wrote: "We currently have it unavailable for purchase, this could be due to a recall or defects in line, or it could be a request from sunline. I am currently trying to figure out why we took it down for the time being." If there is a problem, I hope it isn't widespread. I'll be checking the spools coming from Scheels very carefully. 1 Quote

WVU-SCPA Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 What lb test did you have issues with? I bought a spool of 12 around the same time period. Didn't notice an issue putting it on but have had some suspect break offs the few last week. One of which was at the rod tip with a full casting distance of line out. I've been chalking it up to poor line management and being rough on it this spring. Quote
tander Posted April 26, 2022 Author Posted April 26, 2022 16# test. The line I bought had a rough kinked type of feel, not smooth at all. You could actually hold it up to the light and see the roughness. When I spooled it up, I didn't notice it. For some reason I ran my finger up the line like checking for nicks and then I felt it.
