patx Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 I was stomping around the bank last night and broke the tip off my spinning rod. It’s a 7’ M St. Croix BassX that I put through hell while learning over the past 6 months or so. I was already thinking about upgrading to something a little more sensitive since I’ve started bringing a baitcaster with me for heavier baits, and after holding other rods, I’ve since noticed that the BassX is a bit heavy for most of what I’m doing with it - Ned rigs, finesse worms, etc. So, I was looking at medium light spinning rods. I see people recommending the 6’10” ML Shimano Expride rods. There’s a new series coming out - series B. I put in an order for a 6’10” ML but the delivery date got pushed back to….late June, which is no good. Any recommendations from this group? I was looking at the Gloomis IMX Pro spinning rods because I bought a IMX Pro 7’ MH MBR and loveee it. Someone left a comment on TW along the lines of the 842 SJR being another one of those “do all” tapers. Any thoughts? Agree? Disagree? Open to any opinions or favorites. Thanks! Quote
Wprich Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 I have a Conquest 842S and it is a do all rod in my arsenal but I dedicate it to Ned and Neko rigs. I have thrown underspins, shaky heads, and light Texas rigs with it as well. If the IMX 842S taper is remotely close to the Conquest it will serve you well for many techniques. Are you going to send the BassX in for warranty? Can get a decent rod from St. Croix if you choose to upgrade I upgraded my broken Victory to a Legend Elite few weeks ago. Quote
E-H Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 I have 2 axid-x 6’6” mlf rods that are awesome. They stopped making them now but the regular avid might do the trick. Quote

For me I have better luck top down. Stays tight in that configuration for me and bottom not so much (victory line). Been looking for another comparable ML F rod. I don’t need another rod….yet but having trouble finding a good split grip like the avid-x. Quote
JohnnyF Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 Did you order from Tacklewarehouse by chance? I'm sure they are sending rods out as they come in but I canceled my order, ordered from another site that had them in stock, and had it in my hands in 3 days. The exprides are very impressive for the money Quote
Holetail Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 I would recommend either the Dobyns Sierra 702 or the Kaden 712. They are toward the top of your budget but worth the cost over the Fury 702 IMO which is a fine rod as well. Good luck Quote

QED Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 The Phenix K2 TX-S 713ML is a pretty versatile and light ML spinning rod. Quote
jdr99a Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 I love my expride 6-10 ml. It’s my dedicated Ned rig rod and I couldn’t be happier. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 17, 2022 Global Moderator Posted March 17, 2022 Contact St. Croix. If the rod was still in warranty you might be able to use their upgrade program. They have excellent customer service. 2 1 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted March 17, 2022 Super User Posted March 17, 2022 Outstanding Ned rod. Very light, sensitive, quality guides and seat, at a price that won't break the bank. Quote

patx Posted March 18, 2022 Author Posted March 18, 2022 Thanks for all the helpful responses. I didn’t even think to contact St. Croix. After hearing about that upgrade program I think I’ll give that a shot. Thanks again! ? 14 hours ago, JohnnyF said: Did you order from Tacklewarehouse by chance? Super User GetFishorDieTryin Posted March 18, 2022 Super User Posted March 18, 2022 The ML Tatulas are great rods. I have the 7'1 and it's the perfect all around ML. I haven't handled 1, but a friend of mine that I used to fish with everyday when I was younger raves about the Phenix M1. Quote

TW may have pushed the date out due to demand but I'm sure they are shipping some out. MidwayUSA, FishUSA, ALF all had a decent amount available when I ordered Quote
