Lew's BB1 Pro Question

Hey ya'll,

 

Recently I believe Lew's released a new BB1 pro model. Bass pro and tackle warehouse each display two different aesthetics for their "new" BB1 pro. Both of these were labeled as "new" on their respective websites for a little while. The tackle warehouse one is blue, and the bass pro one has a black/gold finish. I'm wondering is these are simply two different finishes offered by the two venues, or if there is actually a difference in the model between these two reels. Is one more recent than the other? Lots of times websites don't use updated photos, don't remember who but one boat manufacturer's website was two years behind.

Best thing to do is look at the specs sheet on each site. Just compare the specs and that should tell you the truth!

Looks like the new BB1 Pro has the paddle grip, vs the old BB1 Pro having the round EVA knobs

The newest one is black, with a copperish finish.

It's has a greenish tint in the pic but it looks more matte black.

 

Ok reel so far. I haven't used it but twice. The drag is so so. Not as smooth as I would like but functional.  Casting distance is pretty good but it makes a weird sound when as soon as the spool starts up.  The retrieve is nice and smooth though. I need some more time with it though.

Lube the brake drum very lightly

How does it feel in hand? You'll have to keep me posted ?. I'm looking at it as a reel mostly for jigs, sometime in the future.

It's an LFS so it feels like all the other reels in that series. I bought mine in 6.2 ratio for crankbaits. I love the drag on mine.

That was my first thought and did that after the first time I used it but the sound remains.  I don't think it's effecting the performance of the reel.  It's just odd to me. I have had other reels make odd noises similar to this and they seem to work they way out over time.  I just need to fish it. The drag bothers me more.  It sort slips in spurts (geary). I think with a little grease this will be a non issue but the few fish I have caught aren't enough for me to say it's completely bad. Again just odd.

Not bad. Again I need to fish it more.  I am primarily using it for jerkbaits. Overall, I like it.  Do I like it better than other reels at the same price point (regular price mind you)? Not particularly  but I did pay $160 for it and at that price I have no big complaints and I am happy with it.

I have a pile of Lew's reels; mostly Tournament Pros but also some of the other models.  The brakes can get pretty noisy on some of them and they'll squeal when casting (although it doesn't seem to affect the distance).  I usually take a Q-tip and some alcohol or brake cleaner and clean the inside of the brake drum, then put a small drop of oil on the other end of the Q-tip and run it around the drum.  That usually does the trick.

My BB1 Pro screamed on the cast as well one of a few reasons I returned it. Tried the cleaning and oiling no help. If I added more braking sound would lessen but so would distance. Of the 3 reels I purchased at the same time (tat and CI4) bb1 pro was the slickest smoothest of the 3.
