From my perspective the very vast majority of people here respect you and your thoughts as gospel. I've seen you get into one spat, I think, and it was just you misunderstanding what someone said. And that's the problem with the internet and communicating through text. It's easy to misunderstand, then the snide remarks happen, and then the blitz. 93% of human communication is something other than words. We're literally working with 7% of our communication skills as a species in places like this and when we text.

Tom, there may be two types of people.  Those who try, can and do, and those who drag down the others to make themselves feel better.  Those of the latter type are the sissies.

Tom, so many folks here appreciate your comments, years of experience and insight regarding fishing. If some guys don't, ignore them. There's plenty of us around here that like and respect what what you have to say.

@WRB

Tom, your reputation here

as well as your bass fishing legacy, are untouchable.

You enjoy superior support because you've earned it.

Anyone offering anything else is drowning in their own insignificance.

Please rest assured that you are respected and held in the highest regard.

I can honestly say Tom, you bring one of the most unique and refreshing perspectives about the sport and other life based outlooks I have seen.  Getting older isn’t, at times all that much fun.  Value yourself and what you offer up.  I sure I do.

The problem with arguing over the internet with a  forum troll is that they bring you down to their level of stupidity and beat you with experience.

I’m very jealous of your catches, what angler wouldn’t be?  I’m also very blessed you share so much of your knowledge so that others can have great catches of their own. I know I’ve learned a lot from you, I’m sure I’m not alone.

@WRB Tom we are a different generation!

Yes you & I have stepped on each other's toes, bumped elbows, & bruises egos but at the end of the day we respected each other.

I have dealt with the same things over my thread about Toledo Bend. Before I found bassresource other website members wanted GPS coordinates to prove what I was talking about. They didn't get em! So I was slandered relentlessly. It's kinda like everyone saying "no pictures, it never happened!".

Anyway don't get me off on that tangent!

Tom remember what I answered when you asked me if I wanted some of you tackle? I don't want your tackle, I want your wisdom!

There's a lot of knowledge on the world wide web, sadly there's little wisdom!

Keep your chin up, stay strong, we got your back!

I love you man! And no I don't want your Bud Light!

A shallow person mostly talks about other people…

A mediocre person talks mostly about things

A wise person talks about ideas and solutions.

I think we all know what category you fall into Tom. Your posts have always been some  of the most helpful on the forums… even though you are so far away from me.

Your lunker stories are legendary. You should write a book if you haven’t.  We appreciate and love you Tom.

Tom at our age we don't have to defend our statements or actions because you have earned an exemption. You have always shared your wealth of fishing knowledge openly with all members on BR. Your fishing success has been well documented by articles, pictures & history. You have nothing left to prove. My only advice to you is not to allow your vulnerabilities to dominate your path going forward. You will always have the respect and support of this fishing community. You sir have earned it!

Tom, FWIW, I find you to be one of the most knowledgeable members here.  If you told me you caught a 35 lber, I'd ask what you caught it on.  At my age (62), I feel like I've earned the right to state my piece and let others take from it what they will.  At your age, well, respect is the word that comes to mind.

People on HERE are causing you grief?  Good lord....You're a rock star here.  You are old enough and experienced enough to know how good you are.  That's not ego, just fact.  A better way to look at it may be to realize that anyone that is causing you grief isn't worthy of having an opinion that matters to you.  It would be like some 3rd string rookie giving Tom Brady a hard time...lol.  "Whatever, kid"

Tom, I just wanted to add. I spent some time in Southern California in the late 70's to 81. I fished lake Casitas the week after the 21lber was caught there. That reminds me of you.  I enjoy and greatly respect your sharing of knowledge and really like the gear I've bought from you!

Aging isn’t for sissy my mother in law would say, she was right.

The older we get the more cynical I have become. When I was a younger man my outlook was positive and trusted nearly everyone. Naivety is comfortable and trust comes easily.

The world of the internet and fishing forums seemed like a good place to share fishing knowledge so I did.

The result was being called delusional, a bragger, internet troll and a liar.

I stopped posting any photos except via email to avoid jealousy by a few.

I am only 78 and Like my late mother in-law said “getting old isn’t for sissy “.

I standby my fishing achievements, they are factual and yes I am becoming more cynical.

Tom

Odd post.  As I get older I’ve learned to give two-F’s to what people think.   Sounds like you’re still hanging on. They are your achievements, nobody else’s.

the getting old statements I reserved for aches and pains and losing my mind :)

If I had the tiniest amount of your bass accolades, I'd be bragging ?

People still run their mouth about this other Tom's accomplishments as well

Even though he has the rings(photos) to prove it

I am grateful that you are sharing your knowledge despite the haters and nay sayers

@WRB, just continue to share your experiences and knowledge. Those who choose to take that wisdom will be better because of it, the few that don’t do so to their detriment.

I'm not even in the realm where I could try to be jealous of someone that caught a 16 lb bass.

I enjoy your posts and don't doubt anything you say.
