Super User gim Posted March 15, 2022 Super User Posted March 15, 2022 I saw one of these on display at the Northwest Sportshow last weekend here. Interesting concept, but a little steep starting at $45k. https://www.shieldtrailers.com 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 15, 2022 Super User Posted March 15, 2022 One thing that made me scratch my head. He left the truck/trailer ON the ramp as he sped off. Good advertising there guys - your trailer is worth so much you purposefully block others from launching/landing. 1 1 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted March 15, 2022 Super User Posted March 15, 2022 I can see something like that for long hauling, or storage, but not to drive to the ramp and launch. 2 Quote
Way north bass guy Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Not to mention that it looks like it takes a heck of a lot more time to actually launch the boat. I can pretty much launch mine the same speed as he did, and that video was sped up. I’m sure the other guys in line behind me would just love to wait while I took 20 min to put the boat in the water ? Quote
volzfan59 Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Reminds me of Fish Fishborne's old trailer from his B.A.S.S. (the true Major League of Bass Fishing) tournament time and his old fishing show, Go Fish! He had a traveling tackle room in the front of the trailer. He used to come into the BPS that I worked at quite a bit. He and I talked about the rig a few times. Go Team Grandma! Quote

My question is, is there a door in front of the trailer to get in or do you have to get soaked and enter from the rear? I may have missed that. 2 1 Quote

If it's like the enclosed trailer that Fish had, there is a door at the front of the trailer. On his, you entered through the tackle room and then into the boat area. He said that he liked the convenience of it, but that it was a bear to haul around. I'm pretty sure that he towed with a Chevrolet duelly. 1 Quote

Yep. How do you load gear into your boat? How do wipe the boat down at the end of the day, or ever? How do you wash the boat? Work on it? Change the oil? I dunno man, you're gonna have to have a regular trailer to do all of this stuff, and you will need two trucks at the lake to switch trailers. This trailer could fill a very specific role, but these are just a few things that popped into my head. Is there room for tools? Car racers use semi trailers to haul their stuff, but this isn't that big. It doesn't seem practical. I see this trailer as solving two problems - theft of gear from the boat and no rocks dinging up the paint on the highway. If you have no garage then you can keep the boat enclosed in it year round. But if you can afford this, you have a garage Edit: The more I think about it, even if you're a big time professional tour angler you still need to work on your boat sometimes while on the road. With this trailer that seems impossible. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 17, 2022 Super User Posted March 17, 2022 In the mid 90’s a few bass boat trailer had a fiberglass shell covered the boat on the trailer. The shell backend was tied down with tradition stern straps, the front was hinged and lifted hydraulically to get into or out of the boat. Cool looking cover and theft proof but obviously didn’t catch on. Tom Quote
