schplurg Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Caught my first jerkbait fish ever, 3 of them on two different days (one was a crappie). So now I have a bunch of new jerk baits I have some micro baits I will use time to time if I feel like fishing tiny waters. I have some worms I made this winter and I'd love to catch one on a homemade bait, or lure. 1 Quote

Discovering jerkbaits can get expensive, especially when you get a look at some of the luscious JDM versions and start hitting the "buy" button. ? My newest baits are similar to schplurg's new stuff: jerkbaits and micro baits (from Bait Finesse Empire). Quote
schplurg Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 The small jerk that I caught the fish with was a $197 Walmart one. But ya I've seen A-Jay's jerk bait collection....yike$!!! 1 Quote

LetMeSeeThatBass Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 The powerbait gilly weightless looks like it would be really productive 1 Quote

Primus Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 One of my acquisitions over the winter were a few Berkley Stunna jerkbaits. First outing of the year with water temps in the 45 to 47 degree range and I threw about 8-10 different jerkbaits. The only one that produced on that outing was the Berkley Stunna , I had to wait about 10-15 seconds between twitches ( painful ) to get them to bite . I suspect the reason that the Stunna was my most productive jerk bait on this outing was that it was a slow sinking bait which appealed more to these cold water fish verses my suspending models as it was only 3 days from ice out . Because it is a small lake under 150 acres they were many already in staging areas in about 6-10 deep. I ended up catching about 15 on this outing with a nice one that was just under 5 lbs for a solid start for my season fishing in SW Michigan. Regarding this lure it cast well but is not elite in that category as I have other jerkbaits in a similar size that offer more distance , it slashes well and as mentioned is a slow sink . Mid priced bait around $ 15 and in my opinion a very worthy addition to your jerkbait arsenal. I started off with 4 to sample the bait and after making a good first impression added 4 more today. 3 Quote

It is actually best to rig them upside down if you're using them as a trailer. The jig interferes with the paddles action when you rig them right side up. Quote

Super User Cgolf Posted March 26, 2022 Super User Posted March 26, 2022 Got some 1/4 and 1/8 ounce mushroom head underspins to try out this year. Used to catch bass on roadrunners when fishing for panfish so have high hopes for these. 4 Quote
rtwvumtneer6 Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 For the cold water months I'm playing with some finesse swimbaits and underspins. 2.8 on a gammy round 26 and the coolbaits down under with the little 1/0. In the summer I'm hoping to adapt some of the topwater swimbait stuff (Gambler EZ) I picked up on Florida to my local water. So, soft plastic swimbaits is my final answer. 1 Quote

I catch plenty of fish rigging it paddle down. Quote

Have you tried these yet? They are looming large on my radar as I love to fish topwater in the junk. The lowest price I've found comes out to $2.50 per bait. That's a bit inhibitive unless they will last for several fish. I've watched a couple of videos on them and they were inconclusive. Quote

Super User NYWayfarer Posted March 27, 2022 Super User Posted March 27, 2022 Not a new bait by any means, but new to me, the Zoom Speed Worm. I finally found some at my local Ollie’s of all places. Always wanted to try them. 1 Quote
cyclops2 Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 I am very desperate. I will use live bait & no barbs. I have to have bodies on ice in the buckets for friends. " Remember us Rich ? " ? Quote
RB 77 Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 Well, new to me for 2022, I finally bit the bullet and ponied up and bought some 110's and some Jackhammers. Took a hot minute! Haha. We'll see if they are worth the price of admission for me or if I just stick with my Pointers and regular Zman's. Other than that, I am looking forward to trying the Shimano Word Minnows and World Divers once I am able to finally source some. Quote
Gnarwhal Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 Z man mini max. I'm hoping the 2/0 hook will increase my smallie numbers while still sticking the big girls. They look sweet carrying a 3.5 spunk shad! Storm Deep Wiggle Wart. I bought a few at the cabela's sale while burning a GC balance. If they don't work for bass, I'm sure they will crush steelhead and salmon. 1 Quote

I haven't fished them yet, it seems a little early for them... but maybe this week. From seeing the bait in person I think they will last a while, especially on an owner CPS hook. The soft plastic is pretty stout compared to a typical soft bait. That's all assuming I'm not dragging a fish with 10lbs of salad out of the back of a hole though. 1 Quote
