JohnFromLisbon Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 Last year I got into jig fishing and this led me down the path of matching certain jigs with the right trailers. Now, before you @ me, I know that it matters a lot more to me than to the fish, and that you can pretty much get bit on any jig and trailer combination. This is about the aesthetic, as the Instagram crowd would say. Here are some I've found that go great together. PB&J Dirty Jigs Finesse Jig and a Cinnamon Black and Purple Flake (221) Yamamoto 4" Double Tail Grub Watermelon Pumpkin Craw Bass Patrol Silicone Football Jig and a Hard Candy Strike King Rage Chunk And my absolute favorite, the Green Pumpkin Craw Bass Patrol and a Falcon Lake Craw Range Chunk. Green on top, red bottom. On these last two the light from my desk lamp does not do them justice. In direct sunlight they look a lot better. And compressing the file down to a sub 350kb JPEG didn't do wonders for that first one either. So, what do you got? What combinations have you found that just... Click? 9 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 12, 2022 Super User Posted March 12, 2022 Watermelon Pumpkin/ Hard Candy rocks! 3 Quote
JohnFromLisbon Posted March 12, 2022 Author Posted March 12, 2022 @roadwarrior it's a great summer-ish color for our clear water reservoirs. It doesn't really show in the photo, but the skirt has some purple flash to it Quote
Super User scaleface Posted March 12, 2022 Super User Posted March 12, 2022 My all time favorite was a black jig with brown pork frog or vice versa . Had my best jig day on a black jig with black /chartreuse pincer Larew Salt Craw . Black and chartreuse is a killer color in early spring time dirty water . 4 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted March 12, 2022 Super User Posted March 12, 2022 Siebert’s California Craw with a pit boss in California color is pretty sweet looking 1 Quote

Super User Deleted account Posted March 13, 2022 Super User Posted March 13, 2022 Matching trailer to jig is important to me, not so much in color (although in really clear water, sometimes) but rather in size, profile, and action, make or break. Of course I'll be fishing nothing but a War Eagle jig and a YUM craw trailer from now on,.......until next year..... 2 2 Quote
ajschn06 Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Ooooh those are nice…. No photo but my favorite unique combination I threw together that had success was Dirty Jogs Super Matt Brown with a roadkill rage craw. 2 Quote

We had a thread a while back where someone asked what kind of bass would you be. Largemouth, Smallmouth, or Spotted Bass. My answer; caught! ? 3 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 13, 2022 Super User Posted March 13, 2022 Best producer for me in the summer 3/8oz SK Tour Grade Swim Jig 4" Berkley Pit Boss Candy Craw Green Haze 8 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 13, 2022 Super User Posted March 13, 2022 I actually go the other way and don't match trailer to jig. White jig, pink trailer, black jig red trailer, whit jig chartreuse trailer, black jig pink trailer. These are more baitfish imitations rather than craw. 3 Quote

JohnFromLisbon Posted March 13, 2022 Author Posted March 13, 2022 Here's another one that's worked for me: Brown/Orange Special Dobyns Extreme Football Jig and a 3.75" Watermelon Copper Orange Red Laminate (956) Yamamoto Flappin' Hog This a variation of Greg Blanchard's cheater jig (that's the Craw Daddy jig color with a 954 Flappin' Hog) that has worked for me, as you can see from the trophy sized fish on the photo below 4 Quote

Don’t apologize for your beliefs on the aesthetics of your lures…haters gonna hate. If it makes you more confident in what you are throwing, I can pretty much guarantee it is positively impacting your success. I never fish a spy bait and recently decided to tie one on and the whole time I was throwing it, I was thinking about what I should replace it with. 1 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 14, 2022 Global Moderator Posted March 14, 2022 You're missing out if you've never tried mismatching your jig and trailer ?♂️ Sometimes, they really like that hard contrast. 5 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 14, 2022 Super User Posted March 14, 2022 For me the trailer and skirt need to have some contrast, but not too much. I like a green pumpkin trailer with a watermelon skirt, or a dark brown trailer with a black jig. 1 Quote
