I rediscovered the split shot rig about 4 years ago.  I put the weight about 12 to 14 inches above the bait and then texpose the hook in the bait.

I haven't purchased any split shot weights in years.  It seems like I find some split shots on every fishing trip.

I love to fish a C-rig, so it was natural for me to use a split-shot as the alternative, finesse presentation. I switched to the mojo weights a while back and actually used them with a stopper and a small glass bead.  I love that set up.

And I throw in a barrell swivel when I'm feeling a bit wreckless!

I like the reusable kind...not because I refuse it, but because it's easier to get off my line.

To be honest, I buy whatever kind is the cheapest in the sizes I need, which lately has been the Water Gremlin brand.

I forget what size I use lol!  I typically only use split shot when catching bream under a bobber.

Been doing it that way since I was a kid.  Never worried about it damaging my line.

I typically use 6 or 8 lb trilene big game for bluegill fishing.

I stay away from Water Gremlin on principle despite them being a MN company...mainly because of this.

So they're polluting during their lead smelting.

Thanks for the info...I'll avoid that brand.

I use them but as I am getting better at knot tying so I may use them less.

I like them. You can slide it around to give different action to soft plastics. Of course it's easy to add or remove weight with them. I always have some with me.

Also, if you do it right you can make them slide. You have a removable sliding weight.

I want a split shot sliding bullet weight. Maybe I will make a few.

I still use the clamp on type split shot, only cuz I have a ton of them. So far I've yet to have my line compromised using them.
