The only Mitsubishi product I own is a split air conditioning system I put in my addition I built back in 2000. It's never been serviced and works great....Of course I just jinxed myself.

Our Mitsubishi experience was 3-4 years back but I don't think they've changed the gauge of the sheet metal since. We had 3 cars in the driveway - Grand Cherokee, Toyota Highlander and Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. Hail storm. Jeep and Toyota had zero damage, the Mitsubishi $4500.  
 

Neighbor had one too. His daughter drove it up a bit too far and it lightly bumped a parking pylon. Entire front fascia is thin plastic (much thinner than our Toyota for instance) which cracked throughout and widened over time and had to be replaced - $3200.

 

Other than that, the engine/mechanicals were very good and they are known to have a safe frame from a collision standpoint.. just not very good from a body damage perspective IMO...

When it came time to replace my wife’s Equinox, we looked at everything except Mitsubishi.? No dealer within 50 miles.  Ended up with a Toyota Highlander.  She’s very happy.

I would recommend a Toyota or Honda.

@Catt, I did have a Mitsubishi 35” TV when they first came on the market way back when. I’d seriously look at Honda or Toyota. Dependable, good gas mileage and probably built here in the US.

I have never owned one, but I test drove one when looking for a small SUV last year. It was a decent driving vehicle, but we ended up getting something else. The Mitsubishi was a little too small for us.

I would just say they are cheap for a reason. The resale will suffer if that matters. I have no personal experience with Mitsubishi but I am not a fan. You would be better off with Toyota or Honda for a Japanese vehicle. The Korean brands Kia & Hyundai offer a good quality vehicle for a little lower price than the Japanese currently. I have owned about a dozen different Toyota models & currently have both a Kia & a Hyundai.

Consider Hyundai for the money.

Bought both my daughters Hyundai's and both were trouble free.

Wife bought a new in 2016 Santa Fe and it has also been trouble free.

 

I do know that Mitsubishi made what is referred to as an interference engine, when the timing belt goes, the whole top of engine goes with it......trust me I know.
