I got a new Abu Garcia Fantasista X rod and paired it with an Abu Garcia Revo MGX.

The rod is 7' MH/Xfast.

The reel is an 8.0:1.

The combo together, without line, is 9.23oz.

Took it out and caught a 4lb largemouth on it.  It was awesome :)

Sounds like you got a winner there and that is definitely a light rig...my lightest is 10.55oz, but most of my rigs run 11.8oz to 12.3oz.

BTW: How the heck do you pronounce that rod name...it just seems awkward to me.

I just picked up an mgx also (bass pro sale?) and put it on a falcon expert 6’10” mh.  Haven’t weighed it yet but it’s gotta be close to that 8oz mark. Soooo light weight. Can’t wait to fish it in anger.

Yep!  $150 off.  Couldn't pass it up lol!

It's a tiny form-factor.  Perfect

I didn’t realize the reel was physically smaller than my sx and stx reels. They are the same exact size as each other but the mgx is just a bit smaller and a lot lighter. Perfect for the rod I put it on.

My workhorse is a Revo sx.  I knew the MGX was smaller, but didn't know it was THAT much smaller until I held it at the store.  I got the HS one, so the 6.3:1 would be even smaller than mine bc of the bigger gear in the 8.0.

It's exactly what I wanted: a smaller more compact reel that is super lightweight to match with a super sensitive lightweight rod for finesse fishing with weightless or 1/8th oz max weighted Texas rigs.

Honestly though...1-3 ounces is hard to detect.  I only notice how light the new combo is when holding it side by side with my Revo SX/veritas TE combo.

???
I wouldn't be able to use that combo without singing the song

Congrats @CrashVector on the light weight setup, though! Always exciting to get new gear that you really like. Makes you wanna hit the water, huh?

my new Tatula CT 8.1:1 + H2OXpress Tac40 V (7'5") weighs in at 12.56oz, including a full spool of 20lb braid and a 4" jerkbait that's 1/2oz. Whole combo ran me shy of $225 after tax. I feel good about it; the thing is a joy to fish, kind of feels like an extension of my arm now.

I'm going tomorrow to catch some big 'uns.

I'm a big proponent of just doing what you enjoy while you're fishing, and I've had a hell of a lot of fishing fun using $15 combos from Kmart back in the day... Now though with the limitations of my right arm and hand, pretty much dictates that I have to have something lightweight.

I caught more fish on that Kmart special then I have on all of the other rods and reels I own combined, and I'll be honest with you, I never knew the difference. I just had a lot of fun and that's all that I remember, which is what I think is most important.

You know I will - that's an offer I can't refuse! Likewise if you ever make your way to DFW give me a shout, I don't have a boat but I do know a little about my home lake, there's a good brush pile map out there.

Edit; a Real Boat™ lol

I weighed it last night at 9 oz with a full spool of mono.  Mine is the HS also.  I picked up the rod last year as a topwater rod and put an STX on it.  Great combo.  When I put the MGX on it last month it was a huge difference.  I think my uses will be similar to yours.  Its a great rod for walking baits, but I fished the rod with a finesse jig last year to good effect.  It is a great 3/8 oz chatterbait rod and I'm sure it will be good for 3/8 and lighter spinnerbaits (I normally start at 1/2 oz).  I want to fish a little more light texas rig this year and it will be great with 1/8 oz and a beaver.

I also know what you men comparing it to other rods.  My other new to me rod is a 7'3" amistad heavy with an STX.  Haven't weighed it, but its noticable...

I mainly throw powerbait pit bosses with a pegged 1/8oz tungsten sinkers.  That's my go-to lure setup.
