NoShoes Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 So I have a 4 day fishing trip planned next week. Leaving Wednesday night, not coming back until Sunday. It’s lined up with the full moon, and was hoping that would drive fish shallow but we got a huge front moving through Sunday morning. Water temp is crossing over 60 degrees now with day temps in the 80’s lately, but it’ll be 25 degrees Sunday morning. Monday morning cool too but not as bad. I would think 3 or 4 days the fishing should be back to normal, what says y’all? 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 7, 2022 Super User Posted March 7, 2022 Where are located, Florida? 60 degree surface water may drop a few degrees or more if it’s windy. LMB should already be up and cruising spawning areas. The deeper staging water near secondary points or channels is more then likely where the are located, the cold front doesn’t affect those bass. Florida strain LMB are more affected by water temp changes then Northern strain. How long depends on the time it take for the weather to stabilize. Couple day of stable wether should have the bass back on the spawning track. Tom 1 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted March 7, 2022 Super User Posted March 7, 2022 Not a fan of 60 degree water and moon, fish thinking of lovin' not eatin', but timing is everything, and there are always fish to catch around this time, so it's not all bad. 1 1 Quote

thediscochef Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 I would be very thankful for some 60 degree water right now, we've been stuck in the upper 40s for a solid month or so. Naturally DFW is poised for another ice event Friday, which will likely push things back even later. Quote

This time of year I pay more attention to night time temperatures. Days are getting longer warming the water longer. Warmer nights helps hold the water temperatures. Cold fronts can bring cold rain which can drop temperatures. 1 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 8, 2022 Global Moderator Posted March 8, 2022 You'll be fine. If it's bad I'd blame it more on the full moon than the cold front. 1 1 1 Quote

Well you don't know what crimes they have been accused of in the past. The Russians have Siberia. We have vast territories north of the Mason-Dixon line, none of which are in the Southeastern Conference. 1 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted March 8, 2022 Super User Posted March 8, 2022 All I can say is, you'll likely catch more fish if you go than if you don't. I've had enough days where I though would be great, but for whatever reason the fish wouldn't bite, and enough days where I thought they wouldn't bite, but they were almost jumping in my boat to know that there's too many variables in the lives of a fish to know anything for sure. Trends may hold out in the long term so as to be significant in the statistical sense. But as far as forecasting the bite on any given day, the only way to know is to get out there and find out for yourself. 2 Quote
NoShoes Posted March 8, 2022 Author Posted March 8, 2022 I’m going either way. It’s for my 30th birthday and I ain’t going to work lol Hopefully a big dumb one is up shallow and hits something for me. 1 Quote

Super User king fisher Posted March 8, 2022 Super User Posted March 8, 2022 You may hit the best day of the year. 25 degree temp. may be cold enough to cause some baitfish to die off. If that is the case the bass will decide to have a party, and you will want to be invited. Quote
Gera Posted March 9, 2022 Posted March 9, 2022 If I had a 4 day fishing trip scheduled next week my only concern would beer temperature, I wouldn't mind bad fishing just to have the days off and liquid water. Quote
NoShoes Posted March 9, 2022 Author Posted March 9, 2022 Looking at the bass forecast ratings, if they mean more than a bag of terds, has Friday for 9.6. I think I should be solid. Quote

If it's this weekend you're fishing, it's not only the cold but the high winds you're going to have to contend with. In the area where I fish, the bass have started moving into the coves. But when a cold night hits (20's or 30's) they tend to vacate the cove for a few days. Cold, windy weather fishing open water is no fun on my kayak, so I'm packing it in for the weekend. I won't even bank fish. In fact, this weekend was supposed to be our first Fishing With The GM event but I canceled it due to the cold and wind. 1 Quote

JSP28 Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 I think it all depends on the lake. I’m in Georgia as well my home lake “shallow” water is 24 to 30 feet. Spotted bass lake with alewives as the primary food source. Fish last week were shallow and so was the bait but I would bet 64 dollars Saturday morning after the cold front comes these fish will go to to the deepest parts of the area that they are already in. But it wouldn’t stop me from fishing just a slower presentation. It’s still March. 1 Quote
