Super User Choporoz Posted March 7, 2022 Super User Posted March 7, 2022 In last couple years, I've been gravitating from 3/8 spinnerbaits towards 1/2 (and some 3/4). I had settled on 15# fluoro for a while, but went to 40# braid last fall. I can't really put my finger on why, but I'm going back to 15# fluoro....just seems to cast and 'feel better'. I still love braid for lots of applications...and I never really thought line mattered much for spinnerbaits....and it doesn't seem to so much for 3/8. Maybe it's all in my head. What line do use for spinnerbaits over 3/8? And does it matter. 2 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 7, 2022 Super User Posted March 7, 2022 I don't think it matters - for me, 3/8oz and 1/2oz spinners are tossed on the same rig...40# 832 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted March 7, 2022 Super User Posted March 7, 2022 I use both 3/8 and 1/2 ounce spinnerbaits. Usually on 30 or 40 pound braided sufix 832. The last couple seasons I have added a 12 inch length of Seaguar Blue Label to these setups because the pike have snipped right through the braid. It has helped reduce bite offs without affecting a strike rate from bass. 1 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted March 7, 2022 Super User Posted March 7, 2022 I only use 1/2 oz spinnerbaits and throw them on 15# fluorocarbon line. 1 Quote
EWREX Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 3/8 and 1/2 oz. spinnerbaits are on 15-17 lb. fluoro/copoly for me 4 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted March 7, 2022 Super User Posted March 7, 2022 1/2 oz spinnerbaits get 15-20 lb mono for the most part. In some isolated cases where I'm targeting spots in heavy cover, 40-50 lb braid. 4 Quote
BassinCNY Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 I fish 3/8 and 1/2 on the same set up. It was a journey getting to the line choice. I went from straight mono to flouro to 30 pound braid to braid with a 30lb mono leader and I've settled on 12 pound mono with a 12 pound 8 inch steel leader. I'll go without the leader if I don't expect to run into any large pike or tiger muskies. 2 Quote

Super User Bankc Posted March 7, 2022 Super User Posted March 7, 2022 30-40# Sufix 832. Lots of small trees where I throw spinnerbaits, and braid helps to ensure I can get my spinnerbait back. 1 Quote
Finessegenics Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 .33 mm diamater mono or fluoro. Right now I'm mainly using 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Same diameter gets you 15# Invizx which I also used in the past. 3 Quote

I used to fish spinnerbaits almost exclusively on 12 lb BG. 11 minutes ago, detroit1 said: 12# XL here... It's all fun and games until someone pokes an eye out... Quote
