montrose Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I'm no pro, but it sounds to me like its a fuel issue. I would check fuel lines for cracks, check the fuel filter and make sure you're letting your tank breath. That was one of my biggest mistakes when I first started boating. I would leave the breather screw on the tank tight so no air could get in. Goodluck! I hope this helps. Quote

Edro Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Not a mechanic, but had the same issue on a friends boat and it was the power pack. Take one cylinders spark plug out, start the motor and check for the spark. Do this until you find out if all 4 cylinders are sparking, if the are not sparking you found your problem, and can trace it back. Do a little investigating on your motor before you start swapping parts, that can get expensive. If I had to bet it is the power pack. Find the model number of your motor, and go to this website it gives you pretty good schematics, while trying to trace a problem. http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=1e80cd189ca740acefb14db429fa55f2 Hope this helps Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 First this you need to do is a compression check Dirty carbs will cause the problem Bad VRO/Fuel pump can cause it, you will need to do a fuel pressure check to make sure the pump is maintaining at least 5psi The linc and sinc could be off, make sure the roller on the throttle cam has not come appart and the outer section missing, should be about 3/8" in diameter is whole and will be about a 1/4" is the outer part is gone. A misfire for any reason; plugs, plug wires, bad coil, bad power pack, bad timer base, or bad stater. If you don't know how to check these parts, be prepared to spend bunches of money at a shop. A damaged prop can cause it. Quote
pat_walker_fishing Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 im just lost...i appreciate all yall help, and im gonna give it a go myself first....the thing is, when i bought it i had it tuned up and the guy said every thing was real good shape..and strong....i looked at the plugs and and they were black and simi oily...im defenitly gonna change the fuel line tommorow and possibly the plugs..hopefully its nothing serious becouse i defenitly cant afford to take it to the shop right now. but like i said it happens onley every now and then, esspecially after i fill it up....who knows, but thank you guys for all the help Quote
montrose Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 The oil on your spark plugs could mean that you are mixing your fuel wrong. Just a guess?? Regarding the breather valve on your tank....... mine didn't have one either but I bought a new cap which had the breather on it. Hope all goes well for you. Quote
