I would prefer if the colors match, but it’s not going to be a big deal if they don’t. What bothers me more is putting a Daiwa reel on a Shimano rod or vice versa haha

I focus on weight, functionality, and fit-and-finish which implies high end gear, which tends to be a bit blingy, but in a more understated way. Note the [very] recent FK model on the left.

I must admit, bling is my thing.  My Daiwa reels are colorful and all my rods have decorative wraps. Not that I turn a blind eye to performance, mind you.

I don't know if I would call it bling but my combos have to be aesthetically pleasing or I won't even bother. We spend so much on this stuff it might as well look good too!

I agree. I mean when the look of a rod and reel combo screams out ... "Fish me", I am sure to oblige. When the look screams out ... "I'm boring" ,  good chance it's left behind!
