Super User S Hovanec Posted March 7, 2022 Super User Posted March 7, 2022 Got the bug to work on some rods. Local bait shop needed a large grip set for a saltwater rod they were building, so I pulled out the big rod tools and put this split grip together for them. That kinda put me in the mood, so I whipped out this simple set for a pair of 7'2" ML Immortals. 8 Quote
Lead Head Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 You do great stuff with cork, its truly impressive. What is the O.D. of those grips to fit the Aero seat? Quote

I turn it to 1" and keep test fitting and sanding til it's right. 1 Quote
Chris Catignani Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 ...also love the cork work. What do you think about the AT reel seats you used? Just wondering what this addition is used for... Quote

That's just a peg in the upright of my wrapper to rest a rod on for photos or hold a spool of thread. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted March 8, 2022 Super User Posted March 8, 2022 Those grips are awesome. Excellent work! Quote

Chris, I'll give you my opinion. They are quite comfortable, but so ugly (yes, I know, subjective) that I don't normally use them. I have one rod that I use that has one that I built up-locking to put the threads down below normal hand contact. I used an EVA part from Mudhole that fits that big opening that is now at the front, and it works quite well. The hand ends up holding the rod by that EVA part, and being a large diameter, it's ergonomically quite good. Mine is a soft touch, and that material didn't last well. I won a new one, very glossy and except for the shape , quite handsome. Mixed feelings about using it. Quote

I have about 6 brand new soft touch Areos still in the package that are sticky. I buy the uncoated ones now. Quote
KCFinesse Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Great minds think alike! I just finished a ml spinning rod for myself. Because of elbow and wrist issues, I wanted to give the aero seat a shot! -Jared 2 Quote

I built one for someone and liked it so much that I immediately bought the cb72/6-12 for myself as a wiggle wart rod. 1 Quote
