I have had the best jerk bait luck with the traditional Rapala minnow.

The Rapala Minnow is still one of my favorites but last year it got some competition from the Shadow Rap Shad and the RipStop. The Minnow may get retired this year.

Speaking of which, where do the x-raps belong in jerk bait world? Meaning are they more of summer time jerk bait? Seems like it has to much of slashing action for colder water.

That’s one that is widely available around here but, it’s not one a lot of people talk about

i wont say they dont work in colder water but i will say that when i fish a jerkbait around grass in the post spawn thats one of the baits i like. it seems to work better fished more agressivley and faster.

I like these. Good weight transfer system for casting, good profile, good [enough] colors.

The baits you already have will work. Learn where, when, and how to catch fish with them, and then add to your arsenal as you see fit. You may find out that you don't like fishing with jerkbaits anyway. There, i saved you a few bucks..no thanks needed.

Good advice here, too!

I only seem to have luck fishing jerkbaits when I fish large reservoir size bodies of water.  If I'm going fishing on a pond or small lake I leave the jerkbaits at home.

My personal favorites are Pointers. The main thing that changed the game for me with jerkbaits is finding the right setup to throw them with. This meant a shorter, lighter more sensitive rod. I switched to a smaller reel and so far so good. Anything just shave weight. Heavy jerkbait fishing can wear an angler out!

I caught my first jerk bait fish a few weeks ago on a pond. I used little jerk baits, got a crappie too. Pond is maybe an acre. Was a small floating jerk so it wouldn't sink into the snot a few feet down.

I agree with the poster on the first page about not using too much action. I brought my bait close to shore and the action looked extreme, totally unrealistic. If I lightly twitch the rod I get better results.

That’s  kind of what my gut feeling was.  More of a warmer water jerk bait

Don’t sleep on the floating jerkbaits.
