St Croix Premier vs Mojo

I've pretty much narrowed my decision down to one of these two models by St Croix.  The price is pretty marginal.  Which one would you select?  It's going to be a casting rod in the 7 foot range.

It has little to do with the actual rods as I've yet to try a Mojo, but I go with the US made Premiers and have no complaints.

Do you like a full cork handle, go with the premier.

 

Do you like a split grip cork handle, go with the Mojo. Or a BPS exclusive split grip Premier.

 

Colors: Premier is a glossy black finish, Mojo is a purple finish.

 

Origin: Premier USA, Mojo Mexico

 

Personally when I had the choice I went with a Premier.

Don’t know if you’re looking at the Medium power rods, but in my case I chose the 7’1” Mojo over the 7’0” Premier. Biggest reason was that the handle on the Mojo was almost 2 inches shorter. If working a plastic, tube, etc. the longer handle of the Premier seemed cumbersome to me.  If just doing a straight retrieve lure - spinnerbait, Buzzbait, etc. handle length probably wouldn’t matter as much.

I have a 6’6 MF split grip premier and a 7’1 MHF mojo and I will say I like the feel of the mojo for the reason that it feels like a “true” medium heavy fast. The premier defiantly fishes stiffer than it’s rating feels very close to a medium heavy as opposed to the medium it’s rated as. I’d also say the mojo feels a tad more sensitive due to the better blank but it’s not this major difference in that aspect. Either way you get st croix’s awesome warranty so that’s the real win in my opinion

Premier is SCII graphite. MOJO is SCIII, Supposed to be more sensitive.

I haven’t fished the premier, so take my opinion for what it’s worth; not much. 
 

I’d go with the Mojo. Mojo is made from SCIII blank which is *supposed* to be of a higher quality than the SCII which the premier is made from. I have the old SCII Mojo and a newer model SCIII and in terms of feel, the SCIII is a lot crisper if that makes any sense. There’s no comparison between the two. Same with my SCII Eyecon and Bass X. I prefer the SCIII over them both. Like I said though, I haven’t fished the premier and its all subjective.

Mojo and Premier use the same guides. Premier is made in WI and Mojo in Mexico. Just some extra information.

I definitely prefer the shorter handle. Never thought of that.

I've handled a few premiers and they feel very nice...that said I own 2 mojos and like them both very much...I would not hesitate to buy another.

Interesting.  Most of my handles I have made longer so they tuck under my arm better.

 

As for the original question, the Premier is a huge step down in sensitivity from the Mojo.  Mojo is a great price point rod, the Premier I would personally spend money on another brand at that price point.

Agree, there are some techniques it’s an advantage to have the longer handle, tuck and just wind the lure in (i.e. spinnerbait). But to work a fluke, soft jerk bait, twitch a worm or a tube, or anything where you’re putting action into the lure, I like a shorter handle so it’s not rubbing against my forearm or side all day.

For sure.  Most are long for me, but my jerk and associated ones short.

I have two premier bc rods, and one premier spinning rod.  Good rods and I don't have any problems with sensitivity.  The only mojo I've ever used was the 1st gen model.  I didn't care for that rod because it always felt heavy on the tip.
