GoReds Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I'm looking to upgrade from a 14ft flat bottom to something I can take the family out in with breaking the bank. In your opinion is this boat worth $4500. It's a 1998 Alumacraft Lunker V16 with a 2002 40 HP 4 stroke Yamaha tiller (electric start). It's a drive from where I live so before I decide to check it out I would like everyone's opinion if it's even worth it. Thoughts? Quote
backpain... Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 To some degree it depends on your market. I saw a boat very similar with a console and a 70HP Yammy that needed new floors. The guy would have taken $2500 cash. I personally wouldn't pay more than $3500 for a setup like that, and that is if it has a good trolling motor etc. But in some markets that might be a steal. The name of the game is supply and demand. Where are you located? Quote
GoReds Posted April 28, 2010 Author Posted April 28, 2010 The boat is located in Huntsville, AL. I am located in Nashville, TN. Quote
bear7625 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I guess it depends on what boats are going for in your area. I think $4500 is way to much for that rig. I have seen many boats of that type for $2000/$2500. Keep shopping. Quote
Bigs Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 well let's see, I sold my 2005 Tracker V16 with a 2 stroke mercury 60hp for 5500 and it took me about a month to sell last August. Mine had a single console with all the gauges, fishfinder and a decent trolling motor. And when I bought it a few months earlier I only paid 4900. So just using that as a reference point I would say that boat isnt even close to being worth it. That is not a good family boat in general. For 4500 you can get something nicer. Try to avoid that tiller control stuff unless your budget is around 2 grand. Also avoid aluminum boats that dont have a welded hull. Just my 2 cents Use this site to help u find a boat. Its the best site imo http://www2.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/mash.cgi Quote
