I just got an NRX+ 853c jwr while I was checking it out and bending the rod  I noticed it is off spine and turns 90 degrees. The spiral X is supposed to stop the rod from twisting to much. Will this make it more prone to breaking? Does it even matter? It’s an expensive rod so it annoys me but if there’s no difference in performance I guess I can live it.

Are pushing down on the rod tip with a finger and using your other hands finger as a pivot point and the rod rolls 90 degrees without a reel? If so something isn’t right with that rod. I call Loomis get a RMA to return it, it’s fully warranted. Too much $$$ involved not to be completely satisfied.

Yup rolls 90 degrees with no reel holding the rod tip with a pivot point. I called Loomis and they sent me an email to fill out the warranty claim. I hope I don’t send this thing in for them to tell me it meets their specs.

In rod building, especially salt water rods, building on the spline, or it's opposite is done to eliminate angler fatigue when the rod is under strain.  For freshwater rods, the trend has been to build on the straightest axis as that twisting force is minimal and rarely noticeable.

I'm with Tom on this one though. If it's that noticeable, return it.
