With yesterday's 60* temps I made my first outting of the year. I caught exactly zero fish, but it sure was nice. I could have tried harder, stayed longer, and used more variety. I mostly threw Vision 110s and the new Mini Max Chatterbait with a Baby Goat trailer. Tried a spinnerbait and a jig for a bit too. In the final 20 minutes I was there I decided to pick up where I left off on December 29th when I caught my last bass: Super Spook Jr. Man, the colder that water got, the better the Spook was. Everything I thought I knew about bass was shattered as I spent those final 2 weeks hammering countless bass with the Spook in freezing water. Well yesterday, in those final 20 or so minutes, just after ice out, with the water still freezing cold, I got two blowups. Both fish missed the bait sadly, but that's fine, it was nice to see and continued to show me that I know nothing. Both bass went airborne, the first maybe a pound and a half at most, the second bass would have been at least four pounds as far as I could tell. Simply amazing.

Nice! I will be out this weekend fishing the Wildcat for some smallmouth. It is supposed to be close to 70* or so. Whereabouts in Central Indiana are you?

Mooresville

I was so excited about the 70* temps Saturday until I saw that it was updated to 30+ mph wind gusts. Of course the best day on the schedule for the next 10 days is the windiest...of course. I'll still be out there but that's disappointing.

Hey gotta get out there right? Interesting thing happened to me a couple of days ago. I was pickerel fishing with a large floating JB, sweeping it and pausing, and got distracted by something for a second, and as I looked up to see what it was the JB floated to the top, and about 5 seconds later got hit on top with a big splash by what I thought was a pickerel, well it turned out to be a 4 1/2ish lb bass. I'm gonna go back out to try to do that on purpose. Water probably high 40s low 50s.

Yea I hear ya. I think I will be a bit protected in the creek from all the wooded areas around me, but I am hoping the water gets moving with the wind. The smallmouth will come alive in that current I bet.

Good luck to you!
