Super User MickD Posted March 2, 2022 Super User Posted March 2, 2022 The length can be whatever you want. Longer usually gives longer casts, but if you fish tip down, length has to be considered relative to your height. You don't want the tip in the water when jerking. The action should most likely be fast, according to most fishermen's preference. The power should be such that it's lure weight recommendation is centered over the most likely weights you'll be casting. This is to get the rod to load properly for easy/effective casts. 3 Quote
thunderblack Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 Favorite for me is 6'-10" - 7'-1" in Medium / Fast. I like to fish jerkbaits with rod movement to the side and not snapping the rod up and down. Longer rods get these baits out there farther and can set that hook! 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 2, 2022 Global Moderator Posted March 2, 2022 I use a 7' M/MF Falcon Bucoo SR for my smaller jerbaits. Quote
KP Duty Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 6' to 6-6". I'm also a 'side sweeper', and with anything longer I start hitting things. Quote
inferiorfisherman Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 I haven't fished it with a jerkbait yet, but I just went through the same process recently. I picked up a Megabass Orochi ronin which is 6'8" and designed specifically for jerk baits. Seems about like the ideal length for someone my height. 5'9". Quote
thunderblack Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 ronin is a great rod for fishing smaller jerkbaits. I owned the rod from the original series and the new and the new series is more powerful for 110 baits. The original was on the lighter side. Quote
