InfantryMP Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 Smith lake is always interesting. I have stayed on this lake multiple times and fished, and I have never caught anything over 2.5lbs. It will be interesting to see the weights, with all the spotted bass, and the 1 pound 8 ounce requirement. Quote
waitmanFE Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 I'm assuming this will fish similar to Hartwell this weekend. It'll be interesting to compare strategies and results. Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted March 2, 2022 Super User Posted March 2, 2022 I fished Smith Lake twice in the mid 90s. My combined weight for those two day would have me in 3rd place in this tournament after an hour. Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted March 2, 2022 Super User Posted March 2, 2022 J Wheeler doing a little work this morning with a Jigging Rap ~ Who Knew ? A-Jay Quote
GReb Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 I can’t wait to watch Wiggins and the Lees tomorrow. Smith is an amazing lake. Don’t sleep on the largemouths although they may not play as much of a factor in this format. Quote
EWREX Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 i'll take today and tomorrow for content filler until the classic starts. after that i won't give a hoot about what happens on smith lake! 2 Quote
waitmanFE Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 Rapala about to sell out of Jigging Raps if Wheeler keeps it up. 2 1 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted March 2, 2022 Super User Posted March 2, 2022 OK, I'll admit it. I am feeling mostly spoiled after the first two stages. So many plus sized green bass. Sort of knew it wasn't going to last. Too bad though. A-Jay Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted March 2, 2022 Super User Posted March 2, 2022 I don't think it's the Jigging Rap that's catching Wheeler's fish. It's his forward facing sonar. Quote

Ehh, it's his skill paired with the tools. We've got 3 guys at the bottom of the tracker without a fish, i'm sure every single one of those guys has forward facing sonar. 2 Quote

Super User jbsoonerfan Posted March 3, 2022 Super User Posted March 3, 2022 Wheeler would have had a 13lb bag if you took his best 5. That's pretty good for spots. The last BASS event on there only took 37 to win. You can only catch what's in the lake. They can't fish Fork every tournament. Edit - Casey Ashley's best 5 went 15lb 12oz. That's solid. 2 Quote

It's interesting that you've brought this up. I've been thinking lately that it would be a cool thing to award something like prize money or points for the best 5 fish limit within the gross-weight MLF rules. Just something to spice things up for the players and the fans. Accumulated points might be the best option not just for AOY, but could possibly push a player just outside that cut line high up enough to qualify for Redcrest. Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted March 3, 2022 Super User Posted March 3, 2022 It's good to see the Lee brothers battling it out on their home lake. 3 Quote

GReb Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 It took 64lb to win the 4 day pro circuit this time last year. However in a 5 fish tournament you can win on largemouth. In the MLF format you need a bunch of 2-3lb spots. Chasing 5 largemouth bites won’t win Quote
waitmanFE Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 Can't wait to see how Hartwell fishes tomorrow. I fished it Tuesday and got a ton of bites but most were small, similar to what we're watching now on Smith. Quote
InfantryMP Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Wheeler on track for another automatic championship birth. It will be a shame if he gets all these auto births but cannot get the "W". It is good for AOY points though. Quote

I always worry he's blowing everyone out and is always going to win... Quote
