Super User LrgmouthShad Posted February 28, 2022 Super User Posted February 28, 2022 Anyone use a chunk trailer on a buzzbait like a zoom big salty hung off the back? Just a bored question while I wait for spring break. Look forward to reading your responses! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 28, 2022 Super User Posted February 28, 2022 No, no trailer. 2 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted February 28, 2022 Super User Posted February 28, 2022 Lately, I've taken the skirt off and used a toad. In retrospect, I should have just put the toad on and left the skirt. I generally go for the Whopper Plopper before the buzzbait. I just really enjoy the WP more. They both have their places though. 2 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted February 28, 2022 Super User Posted February 28, 2022 I remove the skirt and add a swim bait . I cant prove it but the hook up percentage seems to be better with the swim bait . I think it might be because there is more mass to it get sucked in than a skirt that has almost no mass . Plus it adds weight to the bait . I went from a 1/2 ounce to a 3/8 ounce bait because with the swimbait added , the lure was slightly to heavy for the rod I use . Which adds to another benefit, the lure can be retrieved slower . 2 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted February 28, 2022 Author Super User Posted February 28, 2022 Thanks for the responses ya'll. Some potential problems I can see with using a chunk style trailer on buzzbait is it might encourage short strikes or make it more difficult to get a solid hook set. On the flip side, it would add a lot of bulk to the buzzbait. I really haven't decided what I like on a buzzbait still. Last season I ended up using the rage menace as a trailer without a skirt a lot, and it's killer, but it's also a pretty small profile and been looking for a bigger option that won't roll over the buzzbait. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted February 28, 2022 Super User Posted February 28, 2022 Chunk trailer might work out great , I never used it . It will add bulk and weight . I dont "think" your hookup percentage will suffer any . 1 Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 Zoom Zcraw, swimbait, or toad on the back is all I use! 2 Quote
